Why we Need to Save the World and How we Can do it Green

In the world, nothing is constant, people come and go, some leaving the world a better

place as they go, and some doing the opposite, which will affect the future of our world and our

people, but, despite human-caused alterations, nature will always remain, and it needs our

protection.

First of all, human and animal health is being affected negatively due to excessive use of

harmful materials. The environment is increasingly becoming more polluted. Deforestation has to

be restricted, as trees are a nonrenewable resource and serve as habitats for many species of birds and

animals. By proactively taking preventative steps to improve the health of the environment, it can be

saved from becoming toxic to human life.

Baxter's six arguments for anthropocentrism state that humans are superior to the natural

environment in which they live. Its main aspects are as follows:

a) The central, human point of view (anthropocentrism) is the main ideology to which most

humans subscribe. This is an immutable fact.

b) Anthropocentrism will not lead to environmental degradation as we, as human beings, depend

upon the environment for various reasons and we shall be the ones to protect it for our own sake.
Kachlishvili 2

c)Humans are considered to be "surrogates" of nonhumans. Whatever is beneficial for us will

remain so for nonhumans as well.

d)Anthropocentrism is the only realistically achievable position.

e) Morality is a uniquely human construct. It does not exist in nature, and therefore we should

not apply human morality to it.

f) There exists an optimal state of pollution that is effectively achieved once the pollution is

widely recognized as a less critical issue than others of a similar magnitude after pollution

reduction measures have already been instated ( Baxter Optimal Pollution).

According to Baxter, the optimum state of pollution is the matter of anthropocentrism

which considers the fact that the other illogical factors contribute to the state of degradation of

the environment more than that of human beings themselves. It should have a clear idea

regarding the actual factors behind environmental degradation.

According to “Guha Deep Ecology,” the author considers that the matter of

environmental degradation should move from the perspective of anthropogenic ideas to

biological perspectives. And it is only valid to America. It should not be applied to the other

western countries.

In ethics, as a rule, there are two main problems: one is the question of what is the good

in itself, the second is the question of what is valuable as a means to achieve good. In other

words, it is about the difference between intrinsic value and instrumental value; while

determining what and to what extent intrinsic value has appeared as a particular task of ethics.
Kachlishvili 3

Ecological ethics is primarily interested in the intrinsic value of natural phenomena. Take

for example the following situation. Is it possible to sacrifice pure Baikal water for the sake of

building an oil pipeline or some extractive enterprise? The answer to this question will depend

on the values to which those who make decisions orient themselves. The author of “Scientism:

Science, Ethics and Religion”, Mikael Stenmark, proves that differences in the understanding of

core values cause a divergence of policy approaches in the field of environmental protection.

But we (humanity) are subjecting the planet to enormous stress. We deplete the natural

resources of the Earth, pollute its air and water, destabilize the climate, and lead to the extinction

of many species living on it. We can protect the planet while creating stable societies and a

growing economy.

I think we need to use recycling because: recycling reduces the wastes to be

decomposed. When a product reaches its expiration, it's no longer useful; thus, it is beneficial

to recycle them so that they are once again useful. Waste will cease to accumulate.

Recycling reduces the need to continue to acquire new materials, since there is already an

adequate supply in circulation that is able to be tapped into. Mineral scarcity can be resolved

in this way. Recycling helps the nation to attain sustainability. It also provides more job

opportunities as the process is more involved by labor force. Recycling saves the environment

from the harmful effects caused by incineration of hazardous materials present in landfills. It

also saves non-renewable energy resources. Economically and environmentally, recycling is

beneficial. As an emerging trend, recycling is incentivized. Recycling is promoted from the

household level upwards. Community-based recycling is also increasing around the world.

The cost of recycling is much lower than cost of artificial decomposition methods which are a

threat to the environment.

Kachlishvili 4

As we all know, all processes require time and money. Based on that, recycling would

benefit from investments. In one time “Ecology problem” been fashion wave, and a lot of

donations companies and just businesses invested a lot of money in “saving our World”. But we

know that, after investing all the businesses, believing and waiting to get some of investment.

Matthews shows a real example of why it does not work, as good, as people expected. One of the

problems which they faced, was losing their money. The demand for recycling products has

shrunk, however, as have the prices. One example state, “it’s paper, sold to China for $1,000 per

metric ton which was five years ago. In comparison now, China is only willing to pay $400 for

the same amount. Not only that, but it can afford to be more selective in the product it chooses to

buy. By demanding a pure product, that puts more burden on recycling companies to sort out all

the extra stuff, thereby increasing costs to run the business all the while making less off of it,”

(Matthews 4 Reasons). With recycling companies, selling recycled goods for roughly half the

cost they did a few years ago, that is leaving a lot of companies losing money.

Second problem it is sorting. What does it mean? In our house, we do not have 3-5 trash

bags with which we can throw plastic, metallic products, food trash, and papers. First of all, it

takes some time for that, and humans are too lazy to control even their trash bags. During that we

just throw all our trash in one bag. After that, when we recycle, we sort the bag, for that we need

an employee, who should sort the trash, but find this employee kind of hard. By this point a lot of

businesses when faced with this problem, first what they are trying to do is change from hand

work to machine work. While it not only shows a good result, because machine work can not

sort trash as great as actual people. During machine use, in the factory a lot of mistakes happened

with sorting, which influence productive of result.

Kachlishvili 5

By all those facts, investors do not see any benefits to investing in those factories. Because,

first of all investors want to invest for income, and only after do they think about ecology and

the Green World.

But if at least 70% of World humans will think about and follow rules, it will make this

process much easier, and will bring more benefits in economic and clean ecology World. It is

very profitable to recycle garbage, and not to burn it for the simple reason that you can do

anything you want from the materials contained in it. Most of the garbage, the waste such as:

plastic, rubber, paper, metal, glass, they are recyclable, and it is much cheaper to get them out

of the garbage than to receive them by any other means. However, this is far from all, because

in the process of garbage disposal, you can get such things as: thermal energy, electricity,

solid, liquid and gaseous fuels. Thus, garbage is an excellent source of energy, and, burning it

and disposing at landfills, we act at least inconspicuously, since this useless raw material can

be supplied with heat and electricity by small cities.

Thermal recycling of garbage by combustion is sometimes more profitable than other

types of processing, it is the envy of the country and their natural resources. From the waste

that is used as fuel, it is possible to produce steam, which is used for significant savings of

natural energy carriers, such as: coal, oil, and gas. This is due to the fact that when household

waste is used as an alternative, constantly renewable energy carrier reduces the need for

traditional fuel. Thus, each incinerator plant not only contributes significantly to clean waste

management, but also contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing

to the fight against global warming.

Pollution of the environment with solid household waste invariably leads to disruption

of the ecological balance not only in some regions, but also on the entire planet as a whole.
Kachlishvili 6

And it is not surprising that the elimination of the harmful influence on the nature of this kind

of pollution is a problem that worries not only Russia, but the entire world community.

According to scientists, there is about 1 ton of garbage per year for each person living on

Earth. And if all the garbage that had accumulated in one year was not destroyed, but fell into

one pile, then a mountain would be formed from it with a height approximately like Elbrus

(5642 m). Therefore, it is not surprising that today the recycling of garbage is the most real

need for the inhabitants of the earth.

The people of the USA annually produce 250 million tons of waste, and recycling is

exposed to only about 34% of them. In this regard, many analysts are already predicting that in

the very near future trash will become one of the most valuable resources. And those

countries, who have this resource will be enough, will be able to earn quite a lot simply on its

sale.
