ePortfolio Course Reflection

My view on writing has evolved immensely throughout this course and the various

projects we have undertaken. I have a much greater understanding of rhetoric and its importance

in writing. My knowledge of writing concepts before this course used to be based mostly in the

creative areas. Since taking this class I have come to appreciate writing in the analysis sense

more. Critically analyzing texts is important to understanding the true meanings that can lie

within an author’s writing. My assumptions and understandings have changed because of the

way I now view writing that isn’t creative based.

The most influential assignment we had in this course for me was the “Portrait of My

Writing Life,” project. I never realized how important writing is to me as a resource in my life. I

use writing everyday, and sometimes I’m just not fully aware of it. I write notes and lists in my

phone consistently and this is extremely beneficial for me in keeping my life organized. Writing

is undeniably used as a resource. This has become ever more apparent to me through this project

because it has allowed me to glimpse into a part of my writing style that I don’t normally get to

analyze.

There are many concepts and skills that I will be able to utilize in many areas of my life.

Both in school and outside of it. For educational purposes I will now be more proficient in my

writing analysis skills. It also helps me be able to discuss a writer’s text and comprehend its true

meaning easier. I also learned how writing can be used as a call to action. This was especially

reinforced when we viewed Super Bowl commercials and how they create a specific message

that try to persuade someone to think a certain way or purchase their product. In my personal

life, I will now be able to read author’s texts more effectively for my own understanding. I will

also be further aware of how I use writing in my life as a resource. Whether it be with my notes/

lists or my screenplays. They are there to accomplish a certain goal.
