Project Plan
I will be helping Andy Shaw an instructor in the ESL Department by engaging with the
students in his class. I will help improve the English of the students by tutoring them in
homework and daily educational needs. I will be working Tuesdays and Thursdays
Civic Engagement
Civic means local for example one’s city, town or community. To engage in something
one must put all their time and energy into that one thing. During the two hours serving a
week, I will devote to the ESL Department I want to give 110% to these people of my
community.
Personal Culture

family with hard working parents who have made above average income. I am a student
with intent to transfer to a University. I am American and born and raised in Utah. I have
a part time job where I make enough money to not be in debt. I speak English and Danish
fluently.
Culture Groups

These individuals may speak multiple languages but don’t naturally speak English. These
individuals may need help understanding the United States educational system. These
Challenges

not understand completely what the students are trying to convey. I might have to use
simple explanations to explain concepts. Culture will be very diverse which may cause
Benefits
There is always a good feeling when being kind and helping others and that will be a
benefit of working with these students. Learning about other cultures and different
countries will be an amazing experience as well. Language barrier will be a challenge but
it will hopefully teach me patience and new ways of explaining and expressing myself.
Knowing that I could be a reason for these students to grow and obtain a college degree
