Lesson Idea Name: iExercise: Physical Education and Video Editing

Content Area: Agility in Fitness and Exercise

Grade Level(s): 9-12
Content Standard Addressed: Standard 3: The physically literate individual demonstrates the
knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and
fitness.
Technology Standard Addressed:
Standard 6a: Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired
objectives of their creation or communication.

Selected Technology Tool:

☒ Video (list application): iMovie

URL(s) to support the lesson (e.g., Adobe Spark, if applicable):

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☐ Remembering ☐ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☒ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration (LoTi Level):

☐ Level 1: Awareness ☐ Level 2: Exploration ☐ Level 3: Infusion ☒ Level 4: Integration
☐ Level 5: Expansion ☐ Level 6: Refinement

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): To address Universal Design for Learning principles, students
will be required type out closed captions if there are any words spoken in the video for students
who may have hearing impairments. Additionally, If there are words in the video that are displayed
but not spoken, they can make a auditory recording so that students who may have visual
impairment may listen. In creating the video, they may have the assistance of a paraprofessional as
needed.
Lesson idea implementation: As I address the standards, the students will choose 3 different
running patterns of their preference for the agility ladder, or any other agility related exercise or
drill. The project be introduced by a brief explanation and then a demonstration video for
reference. It will take 50 minutes to complete. 10 to brainstorm, 10 to film, and 30 to edit.
Student learning will be assessed throughout the lesson and by the end product, which is their
video production and quality of content. The final product can be used to inform/differentiate
learning.
I will extend the student learning to a higher learning level by changing the criteria to a more
advanced content area to film or require research on the content prior to creating a video. To
change it up, I could have students teach how to play a sport, like capture the flag, ping pong, and
Lacrosse in a video format as an assessment that they know how to play the game and understand
the rules of the sport. I will conclude the lesson by allowing the students who want to show their
video (previewed by the teacher), show them in class. I will provide feedback to students about
their work online wherever it is that I require them to submit this assignment.

Importance of technology: Using a video creation tool is critical to the project because it create a
motion picture of what the exercise looks like, which is important especially if the viewer has no
reference or previous knowledge of the exercise. The project could be completed without this
technology by simply participating in the exercise, however, there would be no creation of a video
and therefore the project would lose its integrity. Other technologies that might be used would be
any type of internet access device such as a phone, ipad, or laptop for research on agility
exercises.

Inspiration (optional): NA
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and student
privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience include uploading the video to
a public place where anyone could view/comment. I would minimize risks to students/yourself by
only allowing students to upload videos to a secure site. I would alleviate any fears by parents/
administrators by assuring them of my precautions and I would follow common Internet Safety/
Acceptable Use Policies.

Reflective Practice: After designing this lesson idea, I feel the activities that I created could
impact student learning in a positive way by fusing both fitness and technology. I have designed
this idea as an introductory activity to a unit of study. With that in mind, I could continue assigning
video creation of different exercises and levels of fitness to further extend the lesson.
