WHAT IS KBAT?
HOTS – Higher Order Thinking Skills
KBAT- Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi

Definition of HOTS:

Higher order thinking processes are cognitive processes (skills) that can
be categorised as remember, understand, apply, analyse, evaluate, and
create.
(Anderson & Krathwohl, 2001).
According to Malaysia Education Blueprint (2013- 2025), HOTS is one of the 6 key attributes
needed by every students to be globally competitive .
AIMS AND IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATING HOTS
INTO SCHOOL’S TEACHING AND LEARNING
• to enhance students’ cognitive skills and abilities in learning

• Having a higher-order thinking ability is essential in order to


meet the growing demand for highly intelligent and
professional workers in the future.
WITH HOTS, STUDENTS GET TO

Apply and solve problems in life

Be more motivated to learn

see the connections of what they learnt and what they appy in
their lives
Give learning a meaning

analyse and come out with new ideas

use creativity and imagination

create something new and apply beyond the classroom

WHAT DID CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
DIVISION DO TO INTEGRATE HOTS INTO
TEACHING ?
1. Integrate Creativity and Innovation into one of the Elements across the
Curriculum [Elemen Merentas Kurikulum (EMK)]

2. Introduce a new Program called i-THINK

3. Came out with some recommended thinking tools (eg. Six


Thinking hats, mindmapping kits etc. )
WHAT IS I- THINK?
• i-THINK -> innovative THINKing
• a program that is adapted and adopted from The Thinking
Schools International (Kestrel Education, UK) focused on
developing, implementing, documenting and openly sharing
the practices of explicitly improving all students’, teachers’ and
administrators’ thinking abilities.
• Jointly created by The Ministry of Malaysian Education and
Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM)
WHAT ARE EXPECTED ?
 Equips Malaysia’s next generation of innovator to think critically and be
adaptable in preparation for the future.
• With the use of the thinking tools, students can be more focused and more confident in their
learning.
• Teachers as facilitators.
• Students- centered activities
• Increases in students’ performance after using the thinking tools in learning.

• Thought processes are represented similarly throughout the curricula
