The snows of Kilimanjaro

In the story of The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway, the narrator uses the third point
of view in presenting the character by using pronoun she, he, it and the name of the characters. It can
be seen when the narrator tells the conversation “you shouldn’t” she said and “no” he said. The narrator
uses it to explain that the character who talk on that conversation is the third person. By looking the
point of view of the story, the narrator as the limited omniscient point of view in the story because he
tells the story from the view point of one character in the story. The narrator only knows well the main
character feel and doesn’t explain well about the other character. It can be seen on the words “he had
loved to much, demanded too much, and he wrote it all out” and the words “He thought about alone in
Constantinople that time, having quarreled in Paris before had gone out”. While on the other character,
the narrator just explains the situation of the character not what the character is think like the words
“now she came in sight, walking across the open toward the camp” and the words “she had like it. She
said she love it. She loved anything that was exciting that involved a change of scene”.

The Three Hermits

The narrator point of view in the story The Three Hermits by Leo Tolstoy use the third point of
view in which use the name of the character such as the Bishop, three hermits, sailors, steersman and
the preposition he. In this story, the narrator is an outside of the story who know well about one of the
characters. Limited omniscient point of view used in this story when the narrator just explained what is
thinking of one character like “he thought how pleased they had been to learn the Lord’s prayer; and he
thanked God for having sent him to teach and help such godly men” and the words “so the Bishop sat,
thinking and gazing at the sea where the island had disappeared”. The narrator just tells view point of
one character in the story, the narrator didn’t explain what is thinking by the other character but the
narrator tells the situation of them.
