“..if you really want it, then you’ll make your dream happen.” by Madlin Vrdoljak

The aphorism “..if you really want it, then you’ll make your dream happen.” (Albom, 47) is from

Morrie Schwartz. Mitch Albom wrote the book “Tuesdays with Morrie” after Morrie died. In the book,

Mitch speaks about the great life lessons that Morrie gave him, so the book is a real story. Morrie told him

many aphorism, but some of them are controversial. My aphorism means that when you really want

something, you have to work for it but it can come true as long as you do not only dream about it. Some

people think, that this is not possible that not everything can come true but I think it can, as long as you

do not give up.

The aphorism is first seen on page 47, when Mitch told Morrie that he wants to become a

musician. Morries respond on that was that it is hard but if he really want it, then he will make his dream

happen. After College, Mitch tried to be a musician, had performances in little bars and tried to work for

his dream. After some years, his uncle died and he decided to let his dream go. Nobody knows what

would happened, if he did not stop working for his dream but I think if he would worked longer, he would

became famous.

There are stars that everybody knows that followed this aphorism. An example where you can see

a positive result of this aphorism is Jennifer Lopez. She had fought with her mom when she was 18

because she didn’t want to go to college, she wanted to become a professional full time dancer. After this

fight, she did not stop, she just worked harder and also slept on the couch of her dance studio. She got
first small roles for movies, for example in My Little Girl (1986), a low-budget film co-written and

directed by Connie Kaiserman. In 1991 her career began. Now she is a famous and popular American

singer, actress, dancer and producer. If she would listen to the people who said that she cannot make her

dream come true, she would never be the person who she is now.

I have my own experience with this aphorism. My big dream always was to do an exchange year

in the United States. Since I was 11 years old, I wanted to do it. I knew that it is not going to be easy, it

costs a lot of money and I knew I would have to leave my life in Germany for almost a year. But that did

not stop me. When I was 15 I looked for a job and wrote many applications for scholarships. After one

year, I got a full scholarship from the German Bundestag and the American Congress for my good grades

and my volunteer work, that I had already completed 2 years of. Now I am already here for 6 months and

living my american dream. It was not easy to leave my family and my friends but I know I am going to

see them again and that I am living my dream right now. I met so many new and nice people, I am

collecting experience for my whole life and I am so glad that I chose to work for my dream.

In Conclusion, people have different opinions about this aphorism but I am sure that if you really

want it, you can let your focus on it and can do anything you want to. Also, events like if someone dies or

something else, are points that could change your focus. The difference in people is just how much they

want something or how hard they are able to work for it.
