In Phyllisia’s life there were three most influential people. First Edith. Second Calvin. Third

Ruby. Each one influenced Phyllisia’s growing up in different ways.

Edith was Phyllisia’s best friend. They went to school together and they hang out with each other

after school. Edith and Phyllisia talked about their problems at the park. Phyllisia didn’t like

going to school until she meet Edith and they became friends. Their parents didn’t like them

being friends.

Calvin was Phyllisia’s dad. She didn’t like Calvin because she thought he was mean. Calvin was

strict. He didn’t like phyllisia’s best friend Edith. He worked hard for the family. He doesn’t like

when phyllisia sneaks out the house.

Ruby is phyllisia’s sister. She helped around the house. She helped phyllisia grieve when their

mom died. Phyllisia didn’t like ruby because Calvin liked her better. Ruby cares about her and

they got along better when their mom passed away.

Phyllisia was selfish at the start of the story. She didn’t like it there she liked the island better.

Phyllisia liked it better when she meet more people there. We can learn from the story to try

things before you say you don’t like it. We can learn that things don’t always go your way.
