A distribution network with one

distributed generation is shown in
the below figure. For a fault,
indicated in the figure, explain each
breaker(s) operate (open/close)
with directional and non-directional
relay. Consider the given network
condition only and do not consider
any units out of this network
configuration. (Answer(s) must be
very specific instead of lengthy
description)

SOLUTION:
Across Circuit Breaker B Relay should be Non-Directional because the breaker is connected
from Grid and Bus-bar both. Therefore, the fault current can come from both the end. So, relay
has to sense the fault current from both side without being Direction dependent.
Across Circuit Breaker C Relay should be Non-Directional because the breaker is connected
with bus-bar and load as well. Therefore, the fault current can come from both the end. So, relay
has to sense the fault current from both side without being Direction dependent.
Across Circuit Breaker A Relay should be Non-Directional because the load is connected with
Bus-Bar as well as load. Therefore, the fault current can come from both the end. So, relay has to
sense the fault current from both side without being Direction dependent.
In Interconnected breakers both the breaker has Relay is directional because the fault comes
from Bus-Bar end can sensed by relay connected across that end and the fault current comes
from Interconnected side can be sensed by relay connected to that circuit breaker end
