What is MUN?

United Nations. UN. UN Development Programme. UN Human Rights

Council. World Health Organization. World Trade Organization. The list goes on.

These are part of textbooks since primary school, or the elementary

years. It is through MUN, or Model United Nations, where the lessons come to
life. Students do not only read what has to be known, they actively participate
in the process which are undergone by the very people they study.

From writing position papers to drafting resolutions to lobbying for

amendments to questioning the status quo to creating proposals to knowing
how to handle pressing issues in a diplomatic way, Model United Nations is a
platform where students are prepared to solve problems which exist beyond the
academe. These include human rights issues, international territorial disputes,
and economic crises.

Why is MUN relevant?

MUN is an avenue where issues are more than facts and figures. It
shows what happens and what can be done. Patterned after the actual United
Nations, with different parliamentary procedure depending on the host
organizer, Model UN aims to hone the leadership skills of students which they
can later on use for the benefit not only of themselves, but of the country, and
eventually, of the world.
