The data obtained from the study is tabulated in Table QA (a) below. : Table Q1(a) Speed group (km/hr) Frequenc 10.0 - 19.9 0 ___20.0= 29.9 0 30.0 = 39.9 12 40.0 - 49.9 24 50.0 = 59.9 56 60.0-69.9 — 17 [-“70.0=79.9 8 80.0- 89.9 “0 From the data tabulated: i) Calculate the arithmetic mean speed and standard deviation. ii) Determine the design speed, speed limit and median speed of the road. (10 marks) b) Motorcycle fatalities represent approximately 60 percent of the total road fatalities in Malaysia. Discuss FIVE (5) ways to reduce road accident and fatalities of motorcyclist based on the concept of education, engineering and enforcement. (5 marks) c) Time mean speed and space mean speed are used in expressing mean speeds of vehicles. Calculate both time mean speed and space mean speed for the following data 78km/hr, 8Okm/hr, 92km/hr, 6Skm/hr, 7Okm/hr, B3km/hr, SSkm/hr (5 marks) QUESTION 2 a) Horizontal curves are one of the two important elements in geometric design for highways. Describe the transition curve and outline the importance of transition curve in highway geometric design. (5 marks) b) Asingle carriageway with the design speed of 110 km/h and a radius of curvature of 500 m is to be built in Lanchang. The angle of intersection is 60°, the radial rate of acceleration is 0.35 m/s’, the value of friction is 0.09 and the balances are estimated to be 40 percent of the centrifugal ratio. Calculate the following: i) Hand-off speed ji) Super elevation rate of the curve Length of transition curve iv) Total length of road alignment (10 marks) © Hak Cipta Universiti Teknologi MARA CONFIDENTIAL CONFIDENTIAL 3 ECIMAR 2014/ECG304 ) Minimum stopping sight distance depends on the total perception-reaction distance and braking distance. A car is travelling on a road with a design speed of 110 km/hr and the coefficient of the friction between tires and pavement is 0.31. Calculate the minimum stopping sight distance if the perception-reaction time is 3.0 seconds.
