Activity E C Comments
General
Ensure CAL-CECL-E03 "Piles, Foundations and Concrete
1 Structures Calculation Checklist" has been used in
addition to this checklist
Calculation Format
Use Jacobs standard or project specific calculation
2
template, cover sheet and calculation sheets
3 Clearly define the scope and purpose of calculations
Ensure calculation sheets show engineer's initials,
project title and number, subject title, date, file name,
4
page number and revision number, name and revision
of software
Ensure computer calculations include engineer's initials,
5 project title and number, subject title, date, file name,
name and revision of software
Ensure a list of calculation software files (S-Frame, Excel,
6
Dyna, etc.) are included in the calculations
Environmental, Site and Geotechnical Information
Ensure correct soil dynamic parameters for the specific
7 foundation location as per geotechnical recommendation
have been used (native soils, fill soils, frozen soils)
Ensure correct elevation of foundation with respect to
8 existing, rough and finish grade elevations or floor slab on
grade elevation
Ensure any requirements for equipment drainage or
9 spillage with respect to environmental issues have been
addressed
Check the effect of possible adjacent excavation on
10
pile / foundation design

Activity E C Comments
Equipment Information
Ensure equipment anchorage to foundation conforms to
11 equipment vendor requirements (locations, size, material
type, grip and projection lengths, etc.)
Define the scope of supply clearly (anchor rod
assemblies, sole plates, fixators, etc., if applicable)
12
on construction drawing: (a) site contractor's and
(b) equipment vendor's
Obtain weight information for major components of the
13 equipment: driver, driven parts, gear box, base skid, lube
oil console, etc. as applicable
Obtain weight information for rotating components of the
14 equipment: driver (motor rotor), driven parts (pump
impeller, etc.)
Obtain center of gravity information for major components
15 of the equipment: driver, driven parts, gear box, base skid,
lube oil console, etc. as applicable
Obtain machine operating speed: driver, driven parts,
16 range of operating speed for VFD (variable frequency
drive) motor
Obtain equipment dynamic forces from the vendor and
17 compare to the calculated dynamic forces using approved
formulas
Intradisciplinary and Interdisciplinary Information
18 Ensure analysis and design conforms to:
• Client / project specifications
• Jacobs' standards and design guide
CAL-CETG-E03 "Rigid Foundations Supporting
Vibrating Equipment Design Guidelines"
• Project civil / structural design criteria
• Geotechnical recommendations
Ensure computer model for analysis and design are
19 produced using correct versions of authorized computer
programs
Dynamic Analysis and Acceptance Criteria
Ensure dynamic analyses consider average, upper-bound,
20 lower-bound and frozen (if applicable) soils dynamic
parameters
Check computer input is correct, including units, section
properties, materials, boundary conditions, member
21
restraints / releases, masses, load cases, load
combinations and any other design parameters
Ensure that pile load does not exceed the limit specified
22 by the Geotechnical Engineer for dynamically loaded
foundations

Checklist No.: CAL-CECL-E05 Page: 2 of 4 Revision: 1

Activity E C Comments
Ensure foundation frequencies are outside the resonant
frequency window (at least outside 20% of machine
23
operating range or vendor defined criteria, whichever is
more stringent)
Ensure vibration displacement amplitudes satisfy
24 requirements for machine performance and human
perception
Ensure equipment vendor acceptance criteria is met
25
(if any)
Ensure vibration responses do not exceed limits set for
26 the alarm of the machine automatic shutdown system
(if any)
Concrete Foundation Design and Detailing Requirements
Ensure minimum surface reinforcement and maximum bar
27 spacing are provided at all surfaces of the block
foundation
Ensure anchor bolts have been properly checked for
28
equipment upset forces and pipe flange forces
Ensure any equipment vendor installation requirements /
29 recommendations have been addressed (special grout,
certain anchor bolt configuration or material, etc.)
Ensure grout type specified is suitable for the service
(cementitious grout rather than epoxy grout may be
30
required where the grout is subject to high temperature
from the equipment)
Ensure the presence of embedded electrical conduit (if
applicable) is considered in the foundation design and
31 required notes and necessary references to the
corresponding electrical drawings are provided on
foundation construction drawings
Ensure any requirements for protective surface coating
32 and anchor bolt special material type (e.g., for acid /
caustic pumps) have been addressed
Engineering Calculation Documentation
Self check calculations before submitting for checking and
33 verify all assumptions. Show reference to codes,
standards and industry practises
Compare design quantity with estimated quantity and
34
notify lead of any differences
Produce engineering sketch including arrangement,
dimensions, reinforcement, pile size and embedment
35 length, anchor rods, grout type and thickness,
void form / frost cushion and soil type compaction
requirements
Obtain required calculation checks, cold-eyes review
36 and approvals prior to issuance of construction
drawings
