I usually go on holiday in winter because my parents have got a small hotel,

so in the summer they work. I don’t mind helping them because I meet lots of 5
interesting people staying in our hotel. I love chatting to tourists, especially
when I can practise my French.

Going on holiday in winter isn’t all bad, either. We often choose interesting
locations.
Sometimes we go to the mountains – my parents love trekking in the snow –
but more often we go to fantastic places far away, like Caribbean islands.
I really like the Caribbean because it’s such a great feeling to chill out, swim
and go scuba diving, while there are only grey skies and rain at home in the
UK.

At the moment, we’re in Dominica, a lovely island with beautiful white

beaches and palm trees. We’re staying in a small hotel by the sea and I’m
having a great time.
I love waking up to a blue sky in the morning and spending all day on the
beach.
When I go scuba diving I see amazing fish and sometimes dolphins!
There aren’t a lot of people on the beaches and people from Dominica are in
general very relaxed.

I also think about my friends and how difficult it is for them in winter to study,
play sport and do all the usual things with no breaks. Of course when I get
back home, it’s difficult because the weather is always very cold. But I don’t
mind – it’s a very small price to pay compared with all the advantages of a
winter break!

Hi Emma,
I’m writing this postcard from Saint Tropez in France. I’m on holiday with my
family and we’re camping near here. I’m sitting in a café near the beach and
I’m eating an enormous ice cream!

We came to the mountains in the South of France for our holidays last year,
but this is my first time on the Mediterranean coast. The beach is very
crowded, but it’s good fun.

My sister is chilling out on the beach with my mum and aunt, but it’s too hot
for me! With my fair skin, I can’t stay in the sun because my face goes very
red! My dad’s in our tent, because he’s exhausted He went deep-sea fishing
with my uncle and my cousins yesterday and they returned with some really
big fish! My uncle cooked the fish with vegetables on our camp fire, and the
meal was really delicious. I reckon the Mediterranean diet is the best!

Saint Tropez is a very cosmopolitan town and there are lots of tourists of
different nationalities too. They spend their time hanging out in the streets and 2.5
buying souvenirs in the markets, and then in the evening everyone eats out.
As you know, I really enjoy ‘people watching’ and Saint Tropez is the perfect
place.

My sister doesn’t want to leave Saint Tropez because she’s not very
adventurous. She doesn’t really like trekking, so we’re spending an extra two
nights here before we drive into the mountains. It's very unspoilt there, and
the scenery is really impressive.
I prefer the mountains to the coast, because it’s much cooler there, and I like
swimming in the lakes. They aren’t salty like the sea.
