Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
This lesson allows the students to choose their favorite sport. If some students are not comfortable with
recording themselves I would allow them to write a paper with the prompts. This way the students are
completing the activity.
Lesson idea implementation:
As I’m addressing the standards the students will be able to pull out their phones or get one of the
provided iPads. This lesson would be best at the end of the semester, after they have been introduced to
different sports. The students will have approximately a week to complete the activity. The students learning
will be assessed by a rubric, that has the prompts that the students must answer in their podcast. The
students are allowed to write their podcast if they do not feel comfortable recording themselves.
To extend student learning I would allow the students to present their podcasts to the class. This allows the
students to see how the students react to their podcast. To provide feedback to the students I could give
audio feedback.
The questions/prompts the students must answer in their podcast include:
● What is the sport?
● Brief history of the sport
● Rules of the game
● Tactics of the game
○ Offensive & defensive
● Places in the community this sport can be played
Importance of technology:
Using the podcast is a great way for students to get introduced to a new type of technology. This project could
be completed without using a podcast. I could allow the students to write a report or give a presentation on
the particular sport they choose. No other technologies will be used in this lesson.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
To minimize the risks of student privacy I would make sure that the websites have greater privacy controls
and that I have the capabilities of creating closed networks within the website. By doing these things I would
alleviate any concerns that parents or administrators would have. I would also be following the common
internet safety rules.

I think this lesson is a great way to enhance student learning. Creating a podcast allows the students to
explore and create their own product. This lesson could be introduced at the beginning of a lesson to allow
the students to explore different sports. To extend the lesson, I could allow the students to teach the game
they have found to their peers. The students could use a smartphone, iPad, or laptop for this lesson.
