Childhood Education Block Tasks for 3-week Practicum Spring 2019

**Lesson plans are to be given to the cooperating teacher 2 days in advance of teaching your lesson**

1. Differentiated Instruction & Assessment (EDUC 220): Practice Elementary Education edTPA
• Teach two consecutive integrated/interdisciplinary literacy-based lessons (learning segment). These lessons
must be video-recorded.
TIMELINE: Complete in week 2 or 3 of Practicum

2. Mathematics and Technology (EDUC 240)


• Field-test 3 math kits with 3 different students. For each, write a double entry journal and include each
student’s work sample.
• Contribute 2 math kit tasks to the host classroom. Bring back a signed form from your host teacher.
TIMELINE: Complete by end of Practicum

3. Science (EDUC 260)


• Observe the ways in which science is taught in the classroom.
TIMELINE: None

4. Literacy (EDUC 236)


• Complete a running record on a single student from the classroom to which you are assigned.
• Complete a written case study of the results of your experience and detailed analyses of findings.
• Complete this assessment over 2 to 3 sessions after permission from family and classroom teacher are
obtained.
TIMELINE: Complete in week 1 or 2 of Practicum

5. Social Studies (EDUC 222)


• Observe the ways in which social studies is taught in the classroom and write a detailed reflection (2-3 para).
• Observe an arts class and write a detailed reflection (2-3 para).
• Attend a minimum of two (2) meetings, such as faculty, parent-teacher conference, child study team,
Response to Intervention meeting, open house, school board meeting, etc., and write a detailed reflection for
each of them (2-3, or more, para per meeting).
TIMELINE: Complete by end of Practicum

6. Additionally, the preservice teacher is expected to assist the cooperating teacher in at least two (2) of the following:
one-on-one instruction (extra help, AIS, etc.), lending a helping hand during small group or whole-class instruction,
teaching additional lessons (could be from cooperating teacher and/or ones that the preservice teacher proposes),
after-school (programs, extra help, homework help, etc.).
Ø Discuss the ways in which your cooperating teacher addresses the following in the classroom:
• Differentiated instruction and differentiated assessment
• Various classroom management techniques
• Strategies for working with the diverse student population within the classroom
