Observation for Birth-2 Reflection

Age: 3 weeks
Gender: Female

Physical Development: The person I observed was my cousin who is 3 weeks old and I
observed her at her house. She was sleeping most of the time and also nursed a lot. She
seemed healthy and at a good physical level for her age. She remained in a fetal position most
of hte time and had her fists usually clinched. She also looked around the room a lot.

Cognitive Development: When she wanted to be nurses she would let her mom know by crying
until she was nurse and motion to her mom by moving her mouth to the breast (the rooting
reflex). She would occasionally smile, coo or look at her mom but not often. She did not have
much eye contact at all because she is not at that stage yet.

Socio-emotional Development: She did not have any interaction with her siblings or anyone else
besides her mom while I was there. She would communicate her need for something by using
crying. The mom showed a lot of love to the baby and was holding her the whole time.

Moral Development: It is hard to say the moral development of the baby at this age but she is
from a loving and caring family which will have a positive impact on her as she gets older. When
she was crying and the mom met her needs she stopped and calmed down which is good
