Garageband on the iPad 2

Project Setup

Launch a new “song” - use the + button

- Choose the Keyboard

- Tap on the Track controls button

(near the top right)

- Scroll down and activate:

(This allows you to add to your recording

in sections)

- From the same menu, select

Quantisation
Quantising will snap your performance to a grid,
keeping it in time.
Choose the value with the most number of sounds
per beat that you have written. For e.g.

- ti ti is 1/8 notes

- tika ti has 1/16 notes

Select None if you prefer the timing of your

performance.
Note: Playing and recording the software instruments in Garageband
records MIDI data, which in this case records the basic information of:

- what note
- what velocity (how loud)
- how long

Once you have recorded some music, you can change the tempo (speed), the
instrument sound and you can also edit the performance; i.e. change pitch,
length and velocity of notes.

You can set a slower tempo to record your performance more accurately, and
then speed it up later.

Go to the wrench button for Song Settings.

- Tap on Tempo

An easy way to change tempo

is to touch on the numbers
and slide down or up.

Select a tempo you can play

your piece comfortably at.
Increase the tempo later.
Once you have recorded something you can:

1) Save your Song

2) Use the Undo Button
3) Edit your recording
4) Add more instruments

1) Save your song by tapping on My Songs

(top left)

- Tap on the title under your song.
