BABA: “I NEVER SPEAK THROUGH ANOTHER!”

Baba, why do You put us in this embarrassing situation? Why do You put us in this situation of
confusion? Why do You confuse us? A fellow said yesterday that he is a medium, and today he
becomes a communicator. What is he is going to become tomorrow? I do not know. But both times, I
am at a loss. I am very confused.
But Swami would say, “I am not responsible. I am not at all responsible if you are cheated. I am not at
all responsible if you are deceived. No!”
What Swami? Why do you say that?
Swami clearly says this: “I declared it long, long ago.” What did He say? “I never speak through
another.”
What does Baba say about this dreamer who conveys instructions from Baba? Why are they dreams?
“Treat such men as cheats. Cheating, duping, utterly false! Don’t believe that! Treat them without any
mercy. Treat them without any mercy! You can tell them clearly, ‘I am not here to believe you.’ That is
all.”

BABA: “I NEVER ASK ANYONE FOR PUBLICITY”

Someone came to me and said, "Swami wants me to construct many buildings here, many hospitals to
be constructed here, and many temples built here." When did He tell you? “Swami told me in my
dream.” Then the other members said, “Let Him tell us also, so we can resolve to make the budget!”
You cannot force other person to believe your dream! It is meant for you, only at the individual level.
Let us not commit that mistake. Some people come and say, “Swami appeared in my dream and
wanted me to go Dubai and speak about Him”, or they say, "He wanted me to go to Sydney or

Melbourne and speak there." Why? "To give publicity for Baba. He wants me to give widespread
publicity." Where did He tell you? In your dream? O, ho!
Swami clearly said, “I will never appear in a dream and ask anyone to visit any place for publicity.” No!
Impertinent, indifference, or silence are not signs of a devotee. If you go to a devotee and say, “There
is no God,” and the devotee remains silent, it is suicidal on the part of the devotee to keep quiet.

IT IS OUR DUTY TO AFFIRM TRUTHS

We believe in certain firm truths. We should stand by them, or else there is no difference between
politicians and devotees. But we are not standing by them. Therefore, my friends, I repeat once again,
let us not be indifferent, impertinent, or remain silent on certain issues about which Baba clearly
spoke. It is our duty to share and publicize; it is our duty, a prescribed activity.
This morning I have chosen two other words which are in wide circulation. Last week we dealt with two
terms–the subtle body and the light body. For those of you who were not present last week, and to all
of you present here this morning, I want to inform you that all authentic statements of Baba, both
standard statements and Divine declarations of Baba, are given by me in detail. I have done enough
homework. I have not simply walked in as if I were walking into a coffee shop. You should also know
that I have been a professor for forty-nine years. With all that information I come, or else I would
excuse myself and stay at home.
Throughout my life I have never been a bluff master, nor do I appreciate any bluff master. I would
condemn him outright. Therefore, all quotations, standard statements, and the Divine statements of
Baba are recorded here. I am telling you this because all the thoughts and ideas are taken directly from
Swami, direct from the hot oven only, not that anything is kept in an ice cold fridge. No, hot oven!

MEDIUM AND COMMUNICATOR

This morning the two words are "Medium" and "Communicator." These two words are also in wide
circulation. This microphone is the medium between you and me. I speak, you listen, and the
microphone is the medium. The fan is revolving. The switch is there, and the wire in between is the
medium, allowing the flow of electricity. In other words, "medium" is a go-between. A go-between two
ends is that which bridges, and is what is called a "medium."
What is a medium at the human level? What is a medium? Some people say,
"I am the medium." What do they mean by medium? If you go to the etymological meaning, if you go
to the grassroots of the word "medium," you will understand that dead people send their messages to
the medium, people who have already gone to either heaven or hell, I do not know which. Those who
have already left, and who are fed up with us, are those who will let us know that a person is a
medium. The information will be revealed to you.
Suppose you want to know what your grandfather would say about your situation. When he was alive,
you never cared to hear from him. You want to know what he says now, after he has left. Most people
who revere their parents with garlands after they leave are people who ill-treated their parents. "If you
want to know what your grandfather said, come to me," says the medium. "I am the medium. I will tell
you what your grandfather wants you to know. I am the medium."

Now I think you understand. It is something like a real estate business, something like a brokerage, an
LIC agency. "Let me be the medium, and I will convey what your grandfather said, whatever your great
grandfather said, and what you want to know from him." That is what is called a medium.

MEDIUMSHIP IS NOT NEW

In my younger days, during my college days, people were very funny about mediums. Two people
would sit in front of each other, and between them would be a chart with two overlapping circles. One
circle would be "Yes", the other "No," and there would be a big center where the circles overlapped. A
carom board striker would be at the center. The people would keep a finger on the striker and think of
the departed soul. “O Grandfather, what shall I do?” One fellow would move the letters; the other
fellow would make a sentence. I was also a party to such a stupid activity. Later, I got fed up and gave it
up.
This kind of media is not anything new. What messages do you want from those people who are no
more, who are not in our midst? If you want to know their message, which is meant for you, then you
go to a third person called a medium.
A medium will simply pass on the message to you, and acts as a conduit. This is not anything new, as
we said in the beginning. As my friends tell me, this medium procedure or process was very popular
way back in the nineteenth century. Do you think you have discovered mediumship all of a sudden, and
that a medium is your discovery? No, you are not the first one. There have been many, many people
before you in earlier times.

THE METHOD OF THE MEDIUM

What exactly does a medium do? How do you know the message is from your grandfather? How do I
know? Well, you can talk to psychologists, para-psychologists, and psychiatrists. There is a process, and
a technical term called telepathy. By making use of telepathy, the medium is able to see, hear and feel.
The medium hears what we call clairaudience. The medium can see–clairvoyance–and the medium can
feel–clairsentience. In other words, hearing, seeing, and feeling are the three things that the medium
will get, through the process called telepathy, from a person who is no more. He will hear, see, feel and
communicate to the fool here.
Being a medium, I am fool number one, and the fellow who expects a message from a fool is a double
fool. After all, he is your grandfather and why do you need me as a medium? Very silly. However, we
do not deny the existence of telepathy. We do not question clairvoyance. We have no doubt about
clairaudience and clairsentience. We don’t deny the capacity to listen, hear and see.

But at the same time, with reference to Swami, if anyone says, "I am the medium for Swami," how silly
it is and how bad we are if we believe it. How stupid he is, and what kind of mad caps are we? Can
anyone be a medium for Baba? The medium is the one who receives message from the person who is
no more, dead and gone. When I say I am Baba’s medium and you believe me, do you mean to say that

Baba is no more? If Baba is no more, how can you say Baba is God? Please meet Him there or make
another Samadhi. What do you mean? I always joke this way.

BABA IS EVER PRESENT IN EACH OF US

There are two main streets in Puttaparthi. One is Chitravathi Road, and the other is Samadhi Road.
Chitravathi Road ends at a place where bodies are burnt and cremated. Chitravathi Road is the one
where bodies are buried, something like a Samadhi burial, Chitravathi cremation, the ultimate
destination of any flight.
Therefore, my friends, do you think Baba is no more? If He is no more, we need you as a medium. But I
believe that He is God. He is ever existent. He is ever present. He is in my heart right now, talking to
me. When I am no more, I can’t say anything more. As long as you are alive, and as long as I am alive,
how can we say Baba is no more? In particular, Baba says, "I am in you." So we can’t say that He is no
more, when He is very much alive within us.
He said, "I am above you, below you, around you, within you." How can you say,
"No, Swami, You are away from me." Can you say that? Absolutely not, utter nonsense! There is no
question of a medium at all with regard to Baba, because He is ever existent. He is ever present. No
question of getting messages in absentia through a medium.

THE MODERN MEDIUM

What does a medium do? What is the usual method? The departed grandfather or great grandfather
sends a message, and the medium speaks vocally, orally, verbally. "Your grandfather wants you to die
now." Oh, I see! Good, he is anxious to meet me. "Your grandfather wants you to do this." "Your
grandfather left fifty acres of land," or "Your grandfather owns two houses. He wants you to give one
to me and keep one." Very good! "Your grandfather wants me to tell you that you should give me at
least one Jaguar car." That is a very simple desire, after all, why not?
My friends, a medium receives the message and tells others the message verbally, orally, and vocally in
words. The medium relates the information, passes on the information to the other person. However,
there is one condition. The medium is supposed to say exactly what the medium receives as a
message, without any bias, without any prejudice, and without any personal interpretation. In the
truest sense, the medium is supposed to convey directly what is conveyed to them.
But we have improved upon the original requirement of a medium. We are the modern medium, the
medium of today. We have improved upon the original condition. In the past, a medium may have told
you it is better to pray. But we don’t say that. We will say, "Please mortgage your property and give me
the check."
Where is the verification? Where is the authenticity? A medium is supposed to convey the truth in the
strictest sense, and convey the message exactly, without mincing matters, undiluted. But there is no
evidence of that in the modern medium, particularly the medium of today.

THE COMMUNICATOR

Not only this, but how long can one remain a medium? Because anyone can be a medium today, so I
don’t want it. No! I want to be promoted to the next stage, because now anyone can serve as a
medium. Just as I said, keep a striker and when it starts moving, you are the medium. So anyone can be
a medium.
Why? How long? I want to be very special, meaning only I should have the ability to hear the message
and not others. Only I can hear, none of you can hear, understand? The voice of the person who is no
more, the message of the person who is no more, is heard only by me, not by others! Patented, that is
what the next, foolish stage is called.
The medium wants to be the communicator. Why? Anyone can try to be a medium, but now I am the
communicator. What kind of communicator am I? I am the specially chosen, Divine communicator. If I
am a sane man, a modern man, with some minimum intelligence, minimum IQ, I should ask, where is
the guarantee that you are the only communicator? Who said that you are the communicator? How
can we believe that you communicate Baba’s message? Where is the guarantee, where is the
evidence? What is the proof?
On the other hand, only you can hear? I am not here to believe that. Then too, what do you hear?
"Give me your car. Give me at least ten lakhs of dollars–50,000,000 dollars." So you hear many
convenient things. What you hear is questionable, because it is based on income, profiteering, business
transactions, and fooling people. We cannot go by the false claims of being and serving as a
communicator. The evidence, the proof, is lacking, and it is robbing the pockets of the people. It
appears to be more or less profiteering, and commercial or financial bargaining. So the communicator
is questionable.

BABA: "I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE"

Baba, why do you put us in this embarrassing situation? Why do You put us in this situation of
confusion? Why do you confuse us? Until yesterday he was a medium, and today he becomes a
communicator. Tomorrow, what he is going to become? I do not know. But during both times, I am at a
loss. I am very confused.
But Swami would say, "I am not responsible. I am not at all responsible if you are fooled. I am not at all
responsible if you are cheated, if you are deceived, no!" What, Swami? Why do You say that? "I
declared that long ago, not today, in 1965." Calculate the number of years, as I am very poor in
mathematics. You seem to be very strong in mathematics.

BABA: "I COME DIRECTLY"

What did He say? "I never speak through another." I want your special attention now. "I never speak
through another. No! I never posses another." In a village, a woman suddenly becomes stiff, and says,
"Baba is speaking through me." This is what is called possession. Baba said, "I am not a devil to possess
anyone. I don’t possess anyone, I don’t speak through anyone." What, Swami? You don’t speak
through anyone, You don’t possess anyone. What is my position now?

Baba clearly said, "I come directly." Please, how many times do we have to repeat these words, like a
mantra? "I come direct. I come straight. I come as I am. Not in your form, someone's form, buffalo
form. Fellows may claim to be buffalos, nonsense. I come straight as I am."
So You come. What do You do? You confer peace and joy, whereas the claims of other people in the
name of communicator, in the name of medium, what do they confer? They confer the loss of money.
They confer disturbed minds, with the hard earned money being gone. They confer confusion,
confusion confounded. Therefore, Baba comes directly, straight away, as He is conferring peace and
joy, but not any loss. This He said a long, long time back, in the year 1965.

OBEY BABA'S INSTRUCTIONS

Before I go on to the next topic, I want to bring to your attention a simple point. What did He say?
Once He called me to distribute clothing to everyone. I had just joined Swami's service that year. I did
not know what Swami expected. He wanted me to distribute clothing. Being the principal, I came out
of His room and asked some of the lecturers to distribute the clothing to everyone. I asked the
lecturers to do it, what was wrong with that? Swami immediately called me. That is the easiest way to
get an interview, when you commit a mistake. When you are right, you will be rewarded. When you
are wrong, an interview is guaranteed.
So Swami called me and asked, "What have you done?" "Swami, You gave me the clothes and I asked
our lecturers to distribute them to the students." Swami said, "No, I told you to distribute the clothes.
You are not here to ask someone else to do it. I could ask them directly to do it. Who are you to
delegate?" That first time I had a shock, the way He directly communicates that it is not our job to
interfere with His style of functioning. That was during my very early period with Swami.
Once a member of the Supreme Court came to Kodaikanal. He thought I was very close to Swami. He
called me and said, "Please tell Swami that I am here." I went inside where Swami was sitting.
"Swami?" "Ha, what?" "A Supreme Court judge came." "O, ho! Does he have any horns? Keep quiet. Sit
down. I know who has come and who hasn’t come."
We have learned these things out of experience, bitter experiences. That He does not tolerate, and
does not appreciate, any medium, any communicator, any third person, because He talks to you
directly. Hit it on the head of the nail. There is no mincing matters. Many times I committed that
mistake. Also, when He wants you to come, you should come immediately. If you delay five minutes,
there ends the matter. For six months, you will be in cold storage.
When you want to go, you should go immediately. In some cases, you will not meet again until the next
life. We cannot take that risk. Swami is so particular in discipline. There is no compromise. When He is
so strict, rough, and tough, how can we go by the words of a medium or communicator? What is all
this?

SWAMI DOES NOT USE AN INTERMEDIARY

I will tell you another experience. One gentleman brought gold watches from London. "Hey Anil Kumar,
please tell Swami that I brought gold watches, so that Swami may distribute to the students." "Swami,
he brought gold watches." Swami said, "You take them. You take them." "Not for me, Swami. He has

not brought gold watches for me. He brought them to be given to You, so that You will distribute them
to the students." Then Baba said, "Let him ask. Why do you interfere? Let him ask Me directly. Who are
you? Why do you bother about it?" No medium, no communicator, nothing doing.
Another time, in my own personal case, we wanted Swami to name my eldest grandson. My daughter
forced me, and I did not have any other alternative. "Swami, she wants my grandson to be named."
"Let her ask. Who are you? Your job ended by getting her married, that’s all. Let her ask. Let them take
care. Who are you?" That is Swami. There are those of you who have gone through such experiences,
when Swami does not appreciate an intermediary, any representative, any mediation, any
communicator, to come in between you and Swami. He will never commit the mistake of listening to
anyone else, because He wants to talk to you directly.

DREAMS ARE ONLY FOR THE DREAMER

We have another category these days. What is that special category? Just talk to anyone for ten
minutes and they start telling you, "Yesterday I had a dream." When you had a dream yesterday, why
should you tell me about it today? That is your dream, why am I interested? Unfortunately, we have
one colleague in the university whose job it is to speak of dreams. I tolerated him for six months,
Himalayan tolerance. How long can I tolerate it? What kind of dreams? "In one dream I dine with
Swami. In another dream, He took me in His car. In yet another dream, I was sitting with Him in His
room."
I wanted to put a full stop to this. He was disturbing me, and I have lot of work to do. I have to read,
write and prepare. What is in a dreamland? "Brother, Swami appeared in my dream last night." "What
did He say?" "He said not to believe your dreams. He appeared in my dream and told me not to believe
in your dreams." That was the last day, never again, and now he only says Sai Ram. No dreams.
Therefore, my friends, dream instructions and messages are not valid. We cannot go by them,
particularly this: "Swami appeared in my dream and wanted you to give me at least fifty thousand
dollars for the construction of a school." "Swami appeared in my dream. We have so many projects
and He wanted you to give me only one million dollars."
Then what should you say? "Correct, I accept." or "Why can’t Swami tell me directly? Is He so helpless
to depend on you? Or you want some commission? Why do you interfere when Swami can tell me
directly, 'Mr. Anil Kumar, you know it in your dream of Me.' Why does He appear in your dream and
instruct me to do this? Is He is so helpless? How can I go by that?"
Therefore, people have convenient dreams today, very convenient. "Swami appeared in my dream. He
wanted me to tell you to do this for me." O ho! To tell you to do this for me? I don’t know what people
think of us. Are we such insane people? Are we such insensible people? Are we mad?

SWAMI APPEARS DIRECTLY IN DREAMS

What does Baba say about dreams? As I said in the beginning, everything is authentic. Nothing is
concocted or managed, much less manipulated. What does He say about dreams? There may be one or
two friends who may be fond of dreams. Let them dream, good! Well, why not? I can dream to be
president of America. I can say I had a dream last night, where I was actively moving in the White

House. What do you say then? It is okay. Next day if I repeat the dream, you will ask my wife to please
take me to a psychiatrist. We cannot do things like that.
I can tell you that there is one vice chancellor here who openly talks about dreams. He says "Swami
took me to paradise, Vaikunta, heaven. He has shown me heaven." Another time he says, "Swami has
taken me to Kailasa, the abode of Shiva, and has taken me for a nice ride." Next, "Swami appeared in
my dream for eighteen days, every day. He spoke on each chapter of the Bhagavad Gita." How long?
The boys are boys. Whether Prashanthi boys or Washington boys. We elders keep quiet for etiquette,
for the sake of manners, but boys are boys. At the end of his talk, I saw that the boys had started
laughing hilariously. I went closer to them, and I asked, "Why do you laugh?" "Sir, he said that Swami
has taken him to Kailasa. Swami has taken him to Vaikunta, heaven. Why can’t He drop him there?
Why should he bring him back? Without him we are having Kailasa here. It is already heaven. If He
takes him there, let Swami drop him there."

DREAMS CAN BE IMAGINARY

Dreams have become as a matter of joke since then. Another boy, who now lives in Dubai, was once in
primary school here. Later, he attended the higher secondary school and the university, and now he is
in Dubai. Swami wanted him to speak. That fellow began his talk saying, "I had a dream last night. I was
riding my motorbike with Swami seated behind me." At the end of his talk, Swami said, "I never sat on
a motorbike. Very good imagination," He said that He never rode on a motorcycle. In the boy's dream,
he took Swami for a ride. Very good, in a dream you can do anything.
My friends, what does Swami’s say about this? What is His final word about dreams? What does He
say? He says that if He appears in a dream, it is to communicate to you personally, at the individual
level only. The dream is what you should do personally, and what you should not do, what it is that you
need on a personal level–not general, universal, cosmic, global–stupid. Therefore, Swami clearly said
that in a dream He will appear only to communicate to the individual, not to a country, by and large.
Someone came and said, "Swami wanted many buildings to be constructed here, so many hospitals to
be constructed here, many temples to be built here." When did He tell you? "Swami told me in my
dream." The other members of the group said, "Let Him tell us also, so we can resolve to make the
budget." You cannot force other person to believe your dream. It is meant for you only, at the
individual level. Let us not commit that mistake.

THE DREAM MARRIAGE

For courtesy and decency I don’t give the details. If the doctor so insists, I can furnish the details and
take the risk. But the substance is this. One doctor from the USA told a lady doctor from Bangalore that
Swami had appeared in his dream and wanted the doctor to marry her. Ha!! I never have had such
dreams, unfortunately. Of course, it is not too late. So the man went to the lady, who is also a doctor,
and she is also a Bal Vikas guru. She believed him and they married.
I don’t know how many years passed. I think that they were married not less than six years when the
doctor husband went to the sister of his own wife, and said, "Swami appeared in my dream, and

wanted me to marry you also." That idiot married her. So how dangerous are dreams? The details are
with me. Beware of such dreams, and don’t get into domestic problems.

SWAMI DOES NOT COMMISSION PUBLICITY

Swami also spoke about other categories of dreams. Some people come and say, "Swami appeared in
my dream and wanted me to go to Dubai and speak about Him. He wanted me to go to Sydney or
Melbourne and speak there." Why? "To give publicity for Baba, to give wide publicity." Where did He
tell you? In your dream? Swami clearly said, "I will never appear in a dream and ask anyone to visit any
place for publicity." No! He has not offered that to anyone, take it from me. He doesn’t commission
anyone to do this and that for Him. "Swami appeared in my dream and wanted you to construct a
house." 'I am sorry, let Baba tell me." We can answer the person like that. A dreamer cannot tell me
what Swami said that I should do. Horrible! The dreamer should do what Swami says. He did not tell
me.
Therefore, what does Baba say about these dreamers who convey the instructions of Swami to others
via their dreams? What does He say? Treat such men as cheats–cheating, duping, and utterly false
men. Don’t believe them. Treat them without any mercy. You can tell them, "I am not here to believe
you." Don’t entertain them, because psychologically you may become enslaved. Be careful.

SWAMI DOES NOT COMMISSION FUNDRAISING

Some other people also say that Baba appeared in their dream and wanted them to construct a
beautiful building to maintain as an orphanage, or some other school for another purpose. "So Baba
told me in my dream to collect money from you for constructing these buildings. Baba told me in my
dream to collect from you."
Ask those fellows to shut their mouth immediately. Why? Do not listen to such words. Don’t heed such
cheats, that is what Baba said. Punish them further, He said, in the way they deserve. What kind of
punishment should be given to cheaters? Whatever kind of punishment they deserve. To those who
cheat you or deceive you, give them that punishment. That is what Baba said.

SWAMI AND HIS DEVOTEE ARE DIRECTLY LINKED

A final word, which we should always remember, please. What does He say? You should not think of
placing yourself, I repeat, you should not think of placing yourself between a devotee and Sai. You
should not place yourself between a devotee and Sai. Why? Sai and His devotee are directly linked.
Even at the family level, can any stupid person interfere between husband and wife? Can anyone ask
you how much property you have? You will reply, "How can you inquire about that?" We don’t want
anyone interfering in our personal matters. Therefore, Baba said, "You cannot place yourself between
a devotee and Sai." "I am between you and Sai, tell me and I will tell Him. I will ask Him and tell you."
Then both of us will have to go to a mental hospital. Coming between Swami and His devotee is not
living the truth.
My friends, just now while I was coming to this hall, I told a very responsible officer that Baba is so fed
up with us because He has been telling us that truth from 1965 and even from 1962, but we have not

learnt anything. He wanted us to be very careful about these cheats, about these people of deception,
and be careful of these people of false claims. He wanted us to be very careful, but we never care.

SWAMI BLESSES US WITHOUT INTERMEDIARIES

Some people ask me why Baba accepted namaskar. "He always blesses us," I reply. "Enough is enough,
I am going. You always want interviews, you always want rings and chains, you don’t care about His
message. He has come here to convey a message, but you are here for personal gain. Enough, let me
go!" That is what I tell them. I don't know, but there must be some truth in it.
In the early days of His mission in the 1960’s, Baba made it very clear. Please, before we adjourn this
morning, let me just emphatically tell you–Baba made it very clear that He does not use others as
media. He does not use others as media. "No, Swami, You may not use others, but I will be useful. No,
Swami, I want to be medium." What is this? I don’t want that. I don’t use that which Swami clearly said
is not the truth.
Another point–if any fellow says, "I am the medium, I am the communicator," and if he offers some
doopa, deepa, and naivedya, in the sense of giving mangala arathi, to such fellows we say they are
mediators. Baba says that you are going away from Him if you honor, if you revere, if you respect those
people with all their false claims and falsity. Hypocritical cheats! Don’t respect that.

SWAMI DOES NOT SPEAK THROUGH MEDIUMS

Further, He also said that no one acts as His mediator. Can anyone say that Swami is speaking through
him? Swami won’t get into such a rotten body. Your body is full of desires, your body is full of bondage,
your body is full of vices. Why should He get into a second hand body which is rotten? The Avatar is not
prepared to take that kind of body. The Avatar will never get into impure bodies. Take it from me, that
is what Baba said.
Further, He gives a perfect example. Here is a diamond. Here is a glass piece. Can a piece of glass ever
be a diamond? Impossible! The glass may shine, the glass may be so beautiful, but it could not become
a diamond for many centuries to come. Similarly, however intelligent you may be, however great an
actor you may be, however well you may articulate, however nicely you may speak, you cannot claim
to be His mediator. You cannot claim be His communicator, because Swami said He doesn’t need them.

A CRIMINAL ACT
Last point–He said many people abuse His name, misuse His name. How do they abuse, how do they
misuse? They go do different parts of the country, they go abroad also, using His name to collect funds.
"Swami, so they collect funds based on Your name? What do You say about such a thing if people go
