Homework Assignment 4
Due: Monday, 11 March 2019

A Rankine cycle of a power plant is shown in the figure. The turbine operates at steady state
with inlet conditions of P3 = 6 MPa, T3 = 275.6 °C, x3 = 1. Steam leaves the turbine at a
pressure of P4 = 0.008 MPa, and T4 = 41 °C (state 4).

Calculate:
a) The vapor quality of the outlet steam, x4;
b) Turbine work, W T;
c) Pump work, W P;
d) Heat added at the steam generator, QH;
e) The thermal efficiency of this cycle and compare this value with the Carnot’s efficiency.
