ART SHOW

Don’t Miss the Annual School Art Show, Friday November 5th
Join us for this annual fundraiser for the school art program from 6-
8pm (BBQ begins at 5:30pm). Entry is $5 per family.
Ashby is lucky to have such an outstanding art program, as evidenced
by its many awards (including most recently a first at the Geelong
Show!) and the creative leadership of Kathy Hyland. Funds raised help
provide additional supplies and materials for the program and help to
fund special art projects like the new mural in the Junior Playground
(near the castle and sandpit).
This year’s Art Show will feature a variety of art work created during
the year by the students (at least 2 per student), Grades prep through
6. So come see your child’s creativity in action!
The show will also include a BBQ at 5:30pm and an auction of seven
pieces of artwork (one by each grade) at 7:00pm! You can view the
artwork that will auctioned at drop-off and pick-up the week of the
Art Show. If you are unable to attend the Art Show you will also be able
to submit a proxy bid on one of these seven pieces. Information on how
to do this will be sent home the week of the Art Show.
We hope you have been watching the progress of the new mural in the
Junior playground spearheaded by artist in residence Mark Eadie (if
you’ve missed it, you can visit the FOA blog at http://
friendsofashby.blogspot.com/ to see posts about its progress). At the
Art Show student’s will have chance to put their personal mark on the
mural by purchasing for $3 a leaf that they can date and sign their
name to that will then be affixed permanently to the mural.

You will also be able to pre-order Art Cards (8 cards for $12) based on INVITATION
the Ga-Ga pit panels created by the students. These panels are both
individually and collectively beautiful pieces of art, and look great on
cards.

Thank you to all those parents who assisted with Teacher Appreciation activities last week including, Di Gillick
Thompson, Kate Lee, Christine Morrissy, Tracy Raby and Cynthia Scherer, Melissa Wirata, and Heather Vine,. The
teachers enjoyed their morning tea and classroom bouquet/card from the children. While World Teacher Day last Friday
was a formal chance to say thank you to all the teaching staff, we are sure teachers would appreciate thanks at any of
the year, so please don’t forget to let the teaching staff know how much you appreciate their support and nurturing of
your child!

There are many ways you can get involved at Ashby. Below are some current activities we are seeking assistance with:

• Annual Art Show Preparation, various times – Mrs. Hyland needs assistance in preparing art for the Annual
Ashby Art Show on November 5th (primarily matting pictures). This preparation work can be done anytime, but potential
volunteers need to touch base with Mrs. Hyland on Mondays or Wednesdays for instructions.

• Annual Art Show Set up, Friday, November 5th 9am-5pm – Volunteers are needed anytime between 9am and
5pm on Friday, November 5th to assist with setting up the Art Show. If you can assist for even an hour during this time it
would be greatly appreciated!

Tutti Fruitti Thursdays, Every Thursday, 9-10am – Tutti Fruitti Thursday back up and running this Thursday, October
14th and will run until the 2nd to last week of Term. Assistance is needed this Thursday and every Thursday to prepare
fresh fruit and vegetable trays for the children. If you can help join us this Thursday or any Thursday in the staff room.
