 Beach - Beaches are accumulations of unconsolidated sand or gravel that extend from

mean low tide to the uppermost extent of wave impact.

sediment characteristics -- The sediments on beaches may be coarse, medium or fine

grained. If the wave energy is high coarse gravel beaches are formed and if the wave
energy is low, sand beaches are formed. Hence we may conclude that sediment
characteristics of a beach depends on the energy of the waves. Minealogically the
sediments of high stability are found. The most common beach material is quartz. the
local environment also plays a part in determining the sediment type, like the black sand
beaches result from nearby volcanic sources supplying dark igneous rock material.

Sedimentary structures -- The processes that occur along the beach are recorded in the
sedimentary structures. sedimentary structures like ripple marks, cross bedding, cusp-
shaped points, eolian ripples, swash marks etc. Where old berms have been eroded and
new foreshore sediments deposited, cross-bedding may develop. Cusp-shaped points are
common along beaches. These sand points grade in size from small beach cusps to large
cuspate forelands. Ripple marks may be symmetric or asymmetric in nature. Current
ripples have an asymmetric shape that shows the direction of current flow. Wave ripples
formed by oscillatory motion are symmetric and peaked. A combination of longshore
current ripples and approaching wave oscillation ripples may result in a pattern of cross
ripples. Eolian ripples , which have a similar shape to current beach ripples, form on all
parts of the dunes and upper beach.

resultant sedimentary rock type -- sandstones, shales, beachrock (broadly defined as

lithified beach sand (calcarenite) which occurs in bands along the intertidal zone.).

Delta -- A delta is a triangular landform that forms at the mouth of a river, where the
river flows into an ocean, sea, estuary, lake, or a reservoir.

sediment characteristics -- The sediments forming a delta range from fine to coarse. The
bottomset of a delta is made fine sediments, the topset and foreset beds are made of
coasre sediments. Clay is deposited as a result of flocculation.

sedimentary structures -- cross-bedding and lamination in delta-top and mouth-bar facies.

resultant sedimentary rock type -- conglomerate, sandstone and mudstone.
