● In Colorado, minority students was 43% in 2012-13


● In 2011-12, 48% of the nation’s public elementary and secondary students were
minorities
● Increased to 50% in 2013-14 Calendar year
● In 2011-12, 18.1% of teachers were represented by minorities
● 12% of all newly hired teachers in Colorado are minorities
● 10% of current colorado teachers are minorities
● 21% of bachelor degree students are minorities
● In 2013-14, Elementary Minority student representation rose to 50%
● Colorado’s Workforce of teachers has increased by 17% from 1999-2013
● In 2003-04, It was rather hard to fill rural area ESL classes
● 37% of rural school reported the ESL class as “difficult to fill”
● Student to teacher Ratio is 16:1 as of 2016
● Many schools have great difficulty filling Secondary Language courses
● New teachers represent half of teacher population
● From 2009-2014, there was a 35% reduction in undergraduate and post baccalaureate
teacher preparation enrollments
● Only 5% of the students in a recent survey of those taking the ACT college entrance
exam were interested in pursuing a career in education
● From 2007-2014, Teacher entrant supply dropped by 80,000
● Larger cities garner larger amounts of teachers, rural areas are in greater need of
teachers, their supply is rather low.
