CHAPTER IV

METHODOLOGY

This section provides the details of the steps or procedures of

the development of “Decision Support System for Online

Scholarship Application through classification using Decision Tree

Algorithm.” It also presents the models, processes, risks analysis,

design, development and acceptance testing undergone by the

researcher during the conduct of the study.

The Figure shows the data that the user inputs to the system, how

the system process it and result or output. Before an applicant can

log-in to the system, they should sign-up their login details for the

system to verify their account. After which, the student-applicant

will fill-up pre-application requirement to be validated by the

system if qualified or not. Once an applicant is passed the pre-

application validation, he or she can upload secondary

requirements that are set by the administrator. In the other hand,

the scholarship in-charge will be responsible inputting the news

and announcement details, verify and approve scholarship

application and print list of grantees. Moreover, the administrator

will be in-charge of the system user details and other system

settings.

Software Specifications

The Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP) is a widely-used open

source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited

for web development and can be embedded into HTML was

successfully used to build the software that manages input and

manipulation of data in the system. The system is operated under

Windows 7, 8, 10 and 10.1. This operating system will allow the

application to run properly.

MySQL is a Relational Database Management System

(RDBMS) that uses Structured Query Language (SQL). It is used as

to manage the database of the application system.

The NAVICAT Premium is also used to connect to MySQL

database to allow data migration between the databases. It

provides Graphical User Interface to MySQL Command line.

The XAMPP is used by the researcher to create a local web

server to test the application program during the development.

Programming Environment

In computer program and software product development,

the development environment is the set of processes

and programming tools used to create the program or software

product. The programming environment used by the researcher to

develop the Decision Support System for Scholarship Application is

as follows:

Front End

 HTML 5

 Bootstrap Framework (CSS)

 JavaScript

 PHP

 AJAX

Back End

 PHP

 MySQL
