Dear Mr. BadalaLo:

We recently evaluated your

September 14 script for "wings
of the Apache and are pleased with the progress
we have a few concerns that I of the film.
will share with you.

Terry oftentimes refers to "her career.“

This is certainly
a legitimate feeling; however, like other
soldiers she should be
concerned about being a team member. Request you add a line
somewhere in the script that proclaims her interest
in 'being
part of the team."

Another concern about Terry is that the Army does not

normally allow women to fly in combat situations. Request you
reinforce the fact that she flies the combat mission only
because of Circumstances. This could he accomplisle
Chfififiifig‘E—TYEE"TE_§Eene 190, page 80. Suggest you change "I'm
on my own' to "Someone has to pilot the scout. I'm ready.“

Scene 122, page 58: Request you be consistent with

Little's professional image by adding a line admitting that
driving blindfolded is not the Army's idea of solV1ng eye
dominance problems. Further request that you have Little‘
suggest to Jack that they put in some bootleg Simulator time
together to correct the eye dominance problem.

Dear Sgt. Baker,

:EghfgélOWing is a list of items
that Apache Productions
"w_ request Air Force support on for the
feature film,
ings of the Apache." The involvement of the Air Force is
very important to this film as was the
case during the
filming of TOP GUN. We want to demonstrate a positive image
Of the military and welcome Suggestions from the Air

that would further that image.

As we discussed earlier, the dialogue in scene #6, relative

to the Air Force has been changed and is noted as such in
the recent capics of scripts provided to your office. his of
the F—4 Phantom mentioncd in scene #20; is actually to Ca
Swedish Saab J35 Draken jet, not commonly recognized by the
American audience. B ‘n 9 a former Air Force cameraman, I
can appreciate your concern of those scenes. Here then are
the support items we hope the Air Force can provide:

1. Air National Guard Gunnerv Range, willow Grove. Pa.

This range, due to its proximity to the MMB Helicopter Co.
in Westchcster, Pa. is a desirable location to flight test
MMB'S 80—105 helicopter. The 80-105 is to be the enemy
chopper for the film. It will be equipped with 70mm Hydra
rocket pods an a 7.62mm machine gun. 80-105, however,
loaded with rockets or ammo, nor W111 i do any
will not be
live firing. A suitable range area would be needed to test
. The MMB Helicopter Co. feels the

Dear Captain Bourland

Attached is the latest request, dated 1 September 1989, from

Apache Productions, Inc. Mr. Paul Byrd, aerial coordinator on
"Wings of the Apache," has requested Air Force support on three
more items, in.addition to his August 22 request letter.

representation, I feel the company is making an honest effort to
Air Force presence in the film. This is evident by

Finally, but not any less important is the use of a Base

HouSing domicile at Davis-Montham AFB, Arizona. During a
scout at D-M, our production Designer was impressed by the
facilities there and would very much like to use one of
these units for our character's(Cw4 Larry Little) home

Night and day filming is involved.

For all these requests, as well as the ones pending from

our August 22nd letter it is most difficult to explain all
details and variable solutions in a letter. Therefore, it
‘s respectfully requested that after initial coordination
through your office, Apache Productions be allowed

of these requests.

Being aware that your office is handling many ongoing projects,

I would personally like to assume any of these coordination
tasks, within your protocol parameters, to relieve your
office of every minute detail while at the same time keeping
you fully informed.

Together, we can make a film which will give the military

a big boost in the public's eye. Being pro-military myself,
I have a deep desire to see that image enhanced whenever
possible.
