B. The poetry portrayed in I Like Myself is narrative. I feel that it is a narrative because it’s written in
the form of a book which tells a story. The words chosen for the book itself provide rhyme making it a
fun read for young children since rhythm tends to a part of young children's appeals. The imagery
portion of the book is simple as the words used to describe are nose, hair, toes etc.
Explain how the book appeals to children, their interests, developmental levels, fun
illustrations etc. Give specific examples from the book:
The main thing that appeals to children's interest is the rhyme the book provides. Rhyme is
something many children enjoy as its a fun read out loud story. The illustrations of the book
are also appealing to children as it is colorful and cartoon like making it fun to look at and
even analyze/describe the pictures. An example of the cartoon like illustrations is,
‘or-yikes!-with spikes all down my spine, or hair that’s like a porcupine, the illustration used
for the text was a girl with spikes down her back and porcupine hair this provides beautiful
text to illustration connection.
