ABSTRACT

Currently, the Ateneo de Zamboanga University has multiple

Internet Protocol (IP) Cameras and Network Video Recorders (NVR)

installed in the school’s network system for activities monitoring and

data gathering. In the current setup, a group of security cameras are

connected to a single NVR which is connected to a Local Area Network

(LAN) accessible by authorized personnel only. The live stream and

recorded footages of any camera is found and stored on the currently

deployed NVRs. When a user wishes to view a live stream or download

any footage, prior knowledge of the cameras NVR location and channel

name is required before successfully logging in to the correct web

interface of the camera’s NVR. This will lead to multiple logins for

multiple cameras and data familiarization to accurately retrieve needed

information. Thus, the researchers have developed the Centralized

Management System for Internet Protocol (IP) Cameras and Network

Video Recorder (NVR). This is a software application that allows user to

view live and/or download any existing or new IP camera footage found

on deployed NVRs connected to one network. To develop the system,

multiple modules were created namely Login Module, Map Module,

View Mode Module, Playback Mode Module and the additional

modules— User Account Module, IP Camera Module, NVR Module,

Building Location Module and Floor Plan Module. All modules are

connected to one database, maintained and managed by the user.

The results of the system’s modular testing prove that each

module is works satisfactorily and provides the expected output, if any.

However, during testing of the playback module the researchers

discovered that the time set as starting and ending second during date

and time setup, are different from the starting and ending second

displayed on the downloaded video. This discrepancy is due to the fact

that the camera’s display time is not well calibrated or is not following

the correct time zone.

Moreover, the researchers suggest that the system be upgraded

to a more aesthetically pleasing user interface for better user

experience. It is also suggested to use higher RAM computers to run

the system to lessen lag activity during live stream and download.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

First and fore most we would like to take this opportunity to thank

the Almighty God for granting us the knowledge and skills expected of

us to deliver, enough strength to overcome all the trials we had to face,

and good health to accomplish this senior project.

We would also like to acknowledge and express our most sincere

gratitude to the following individuals who gave significant contribution

for the completion of this project:

We wish to express our sincere thanks to our thesis adviser, Mr

Louie Virgil A. Gallardo, for allotting time and effort in guiding us during

the development of both the project’s paper and the system, and for

pushing us to perform excellently on this project;

To Mr Richter M. Vecina who granted us access to the IP

camera streams and NVRs for the development and testing of the

system, and for constantly helping us improve the system through

recommendations and suggestions. Thanks to his support, we the

researchers were able to gain knowledge;

To Ms Vaneza B. Suarez who took time out of her own busy

schedule to aid us in finishing the system’s paper by proofreading and

giving advices on how to correctly write the paper. We also appreciate

her support and words of encouragement;

iv

To Mr Raymund Brix O. Galvez who constantly helped us during

the development of this project’s system and for giving us advises on

how to solve encountered system problems;

To our friends who provided us with constructive criticism for the

betterment of the project’s system and for helping us in many ways

possible; and

Lastly, to our dearest parents and family who are our core

motivation, for their all-out support by providing us with all our

necessities in order for us to finish this project. It is through their

undying love that we were able to pass hurdles and reach the fulfilment

of this project.
