Recent trends in place of death in England

The Office of National Statistics released place of death trend statistics to NEoLCIN at PHE.

The charts below were created using this data. Similar information for lower geographies
(Strategic Clinical Networks, Local Authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and Public
Health England (PHE) centres) is available in the same ONS release.

The information should be interpreted together with the notes supplied by ONS :

1 Place of death indicator is a percentage calculated as: place of death/all deaths* 100
2 Excluding all deaths from external causes defined by International Classification of
Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes V01-Y89, U50.9.
3 Each quarter is based on the latest available boundary and establishment type
information.
4 Figures exclude deaths of non-residents.
5 Data for 2010-2014 are based on final mortality data. Data for 2015 are provisional.
6 Figures are based on deaths registered, rather than deaths occurring in each quarter.
Further information on registration delays for a range of causes can be found on the
ONS website: www.ons.gov.uk/ons/guide-method/user-guidance/health-and-life-
events/impact-of-registration-delays-on-mortality-statistics/index.html
