There are 7 programs offered by department of physics and 18 courses for ug and 22 courses for pg.

Out
of these 18 programs student has to select 12 courses in UG and for PG all courses are compulsery. Each
course is equipped with 4 outcomes and they are mapped with the program outcomes designed by the
college. A sample CO PO mapping table is as shown below.

Here the mapping is done over a 4 point scale from 0 to 3. 3 is strongly mapped. 2 is moderately
mapped. 2 is weakly mapped. 0 is not mapped.

Question paper is designed based on the course outcomes with proper weight age to each course
outcome. The answer scripts of individual student is evaluated and marks obtained for each CO is noted
down.

The continuous internal assessment from 2013 to 2017 was for 25 marks where 15 marks is direct
assessment and 10 marks was for indirect assessment. Where as from the academic year 2018-2019, the
CIE is for 40 marks where 25 marks are assigned for direct assessment which include written test and
assignment. The remaining 15 marks are assigned for indirect assessment. This may include but not
limited to seminars, group discussions, quiz, study project etc. pedagogical tools decided by the faculty
and the student with their mutual consent.

The marks obtained by individual student is assessed and the marks obtained corresponding to each CO
is noted down. This gives an idea over the individual components of the course that are well understood
by the students and that are not well understood.

Once it is done, the average course outcomes are calculated. A threshold has been fixed by the institute
for the Cos to be called as attained. For direct assessment, the threshold is fixed at 66%. For indirect
assessment it is fixed at 60% and for final assessment it is fixed at 40%. The percentage of students who
have crossed this threshold has been counted. The fraction of students who have attained a particular
CO is taken as weight factor for that corresponding CO and their impact on corresponding POs has been
calculated. The average of CO weight factors for each PO is calculated and multiplied with the fractional
weight factor obtained from CO attainments table. The weighted average over all the courses in all the
semesters gives the average PO attainment for a particular program by the students.

The PO attainment tables for the 5 programs offered by the department of physics for the 2015-2018
batch of students has been presented in the following tables.
