Qalqalah
This applies to the following letters:

When we hit a sukoon on these letters, give a slight ___________ to the sound.

Why does this happen?

Examples for practice:

9
Kaaf ‫ ك‬and Taa ‫ت‬
When we hit a sukoon on these letters, give a slight _____________________

When reciting these letters with a harakah, ____________________________

Examples for practice:

Here we have a few examples of taa and kaaf, both vowelled and unvowelled.
Practice reciting this section, making sure to let out a little air when stopping
on the taa, and making sure to not give extra air on the vowelled kaaf, as we
have previously discussed.

10
‫‪Holding onto Sukoon‬‬

‫‪Examples for practice:‬‬

Letter Substitution Test

Examples for practice:

12
Transitioning Between Heavy and Light
*These transitions occur all over the Quran.*

Examples for practice:

The key to mastering these transitions:

1) Slow down: recite letters, not words

2) Record yourself and pay attention in order to build self-awareness

3) Practice! These are not difficult – they just take conscious effort

13
Combo Vowels
*Remember to keep in mind the previous lesson on vowel sounds*

Examples for practice:

Extra Quran Practice
Example 1
Here we have a few different “sections” of practice. The entire surah has several
examples pertaining to rules of raa, especially ayahs 1-5. Ayahs 6-14 have several
examples of qalqalah. Ayahs 15 to the end of the surah (continued on next page)
have many examples of madd to practice.

33
34
Example 2
These first twelve ayahs of surah al-Mulk have many examples of the various rules
of noon saakin, tanween, and meem saakin. Try to find these cases and recite with
the correct rules. (The surah continues on the next page.)
