JESUS FORGIVES

Penance
KEY UNDERSTANDINGS
UNIT OVERVIEW

The unit ‘Jesus Forgives’ explores the work of human life and how it relates to Jesus
and his teachings of forgiveness. The unit heavily involves the concept of work and
what work is in today’s society compared to the past. The unit begins by discovering
how people work as God intended, with the gifts that God had given them. This then
allowed people to realise how much love God had for them (A1, A2, A3). The unit then
goes on to explore how Jesus renewed the understanding of work and how it is used to
draw people closer to God and build on their faith (B1, B2). The final part of the unit is
about the forgiveness of sin and how this is central to Jesus’ teachings. Students will
explore how to ask for forgiveness from others and how to work in the way of Jesus
(C1, C2, C3, C4).
Therefore, the overall unit relates to and ties in well with the Jesus Topic of Penance.
Penance is a sacrament received by Catholics to have forgiveness of sin. It is important
that through the teachings of this unit of work, students are prepared for when they
received the sacrament of Penance, as well as know how to forgive others during
difficult times.
