YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - ACT ONE, SCENE 8 – The Town Square
VILLAGER 1: I can feel it in my bones! There’s something very wrong going on up
there in that castle! VILLAGER 2: You’re right! They’re up to no good I'll tell you! VILLAGER 3: But what are we supposed to do about it? VILLAGER 4: Where’s Inspector Kemp? He’ll know what to do! Inspector Kemp enters VILLAGER 5: There he is! Villager 4 crosses to Inspector Kemp VILLAGER 4: Inspector, have you heard? Frankenstein’s grandson is in the village! VILLAGER 6: We’re frightened. They may be making another monster up there. VILLAGER 7: Those Frankenstein’s are dangerous! INSPECTOR: You’re telling me! I’ll never forget, years ago one of Frankenstein’s creatures came rampaging through our village. I tried to stop him but I couldn’t. He tore of my left arm and my right leg. ALL VILLAGERS: Oooooh! INSPECTOR: I had to go all the way to Vienna to find a top surgeon who could me back together again. VILLAGER 8: A top surgeon in Vienna? That must have been expensive! INSPECTOR: Expensive? Are you kidding? It cost me an arm and a leg! VILLAGER 9: We need to stop them before it happens again! VILLAGER 10: Lets storm the castle! VILLAGER 11: Everyone grab your pitch forks! VILLAGER 12: Lets show them what we’re made of! VILLAGER 13: STORM THE CASTLE! STORM THE CASTLE! All Villagers join in VILLAGERS: STORM THE CASTLE, STORM THE CASTLE, STORM THE CASTLE VILLAGER 14: (shouting) WAITTTTT! Everyone goes silent VILLAGER 14: We don’t know what’s going on up there in that castle. This Doctor Frankenstein might be guilty or he might be innocent. And why is it in every low- budget monster movie there’s always an angry mob shouting “Storm the castle!”? It’s such a tired cliché! INSPECTOR: Hmm, you’ve made a good point. Let’s not rush to judgement. We’ll save the storming for later. Meanwhile we’ll pay a friendly visit on the doctor, pretend to be welcoming him to Transylvania, while we’re in fact doing some serious work class schnooping! ALL VILLAGERS: YAAAAA! INSPECTOR: Follow me! They all exit behind the Inspector.
