Blackout Poem

Luke Myers

The original page was (disregarding my personal opinion of who spoke it) the first

address from Donald Trump as President of the U.S. I split the text into three sections.

Blue, where it says “People unite because of” where it then lists off the reasons why

people have come together. Words surrounded in red represent feelings and

motivations that brought people together, all of which are negative. Then there are the

words in orange which say “Those built strength” which is referring to the words in red. I

was referring to how humanity has had to overcome hardships in and history, and how it

has made us stronger. A good quote to go with this is from the German philosopher

Friedrich Nietzsche, who said “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.” Finally,

the image that I drew is of a fist. In history and the modern day, a fist is used to

represent strength prevailing. Fun fact, I am not very good at drawing, so I literally put

my arm on the paper and traced it.
