The book ‘Qashmuqash’ (tussle) is an autobiography written by
, one among great sons of soil and the pioneer of modern
political movement and founding father of Muslim conference
namely Chowdary Ghulam abbas. It holds a number of
dimensions in itself. The author begins the book with the
fascinating and delicate moments of his childhood, full of
caprices in which the natural instincts of man and its gradual
development has been discoursed with proficiency.
The events and good rid dances detailed in book , do not
seem revolving out of its orbit nevertheless it can be termed as
‘masterpiece’ for you are reading the personnel and political
endeavors of an individual but as you read it , you will have
amassed fair portion of modern political perspective of j & k.
The book is full of thrilling revelations and astounding
evenements .Sound grip on words with deep meanings and the
mellifluous pattern of writing bewitches heart and mind of
reader. And demands core-concentration. By noting down this
piece , the pen man has not only enlightened the future course
but also done a favor on Urdu literature itself.
The book comprising of 26 chapters is refulgent of many
important chronicles . The contours of political circumstances in
j & k finds well place along with individual experiences of
writer. It as pertinent to mention that the autobiography is
stick merely to October 1946 encompasses 25 years long
diligence of writer, notwithstanding is a valuable source and
acts as a lamp on history of Kashmir. Moreover the author has
survived all odds as a leader and eyewitness of all events that
took place in 20th century .Qashmuqash is a recorded history of
series of historical, national and political flip-flops of Saracens
of state.
Atrocities of Dogra rule , helplessness of valleties, greater
tragedy of 1931, Glancy commission, from young men
association to Muslim league, Sheikh Abdulah and his
nationalism , toilsome struggle of author during his jail term,
awakening of Muslims and likewise many other significant
events find good place in book. while individually P. n Bazaz,
Mirwaiz Yousuf shah, Mr Glancy, Gopal swamy ayengar, Qaid-e-
azm, Sir B.n rao, Raja Krishnan koul and other personalities
have been discoursed in a very lucid manner who have ever
been part of politics in the state. The book on one hand
acquaints its reader to the historical backdrop of state politics
and on the other extirpates all false notions prevalent in our
society.
Seemingly our vale is known as heaven on earth but it is
only paradise where thorns grow in place of flowers, where
water does not flow down the rivers but blood, where
dejection lashes on behalf of jubilant rains and those good
mornings filled with peace and prosperity never dawn over
here rather sobs and heart-burning sighs raise to heavens.
Justice is strangulated everyday, serfdom has been injected so
abyss that people are allergic to freedom. And these slavery
injections are being given to us since the very period when
Dogra rulers used to be the legatees of estate of j&k with all its
dependies.
The author depicts this deplorable plight as “ They(
kashmiris) after the physical persecution, somehow survived
the barbaritical period and after the mental deterioration ,
began the third period of trampling the free wills while as in
some areas the construction of mosques became impossible for
them. The calls to prayers were declared as formidable…the
besieged nation was left to alive to breathe but in reality
buried alive.”
The most heart piercing part of the book comprises of
those pages where one comes to know how MC was converted
into NC to pave the way for Indian nationalism .It dispels the
false notion about S. Abdullah which people fostered in their
minds. The book addresses all. Being deprived of its reading is
tantamount to being deprived of the guidance of great
statesman. It instills its reader the sprit of dedication , hope and
political acumen. I highly recommend this piece to the students
even I advice academicians to consider it for introducing in
curriculum.
