Purpose

● To provide enjoyable harmony between people and their environment. To get rid of
damage to the environment and biosphere and stimulate health and welfare of
man. The purpose of this policy to ensure clean environment from litter and
pollution.

● Environmental Impact Statement : An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a


document prepared to describe the effects for proposed activities on the environment

● Environmental assessment (EA) : is the assessment of the environmental consequences


(positive and negative) of a plan, policy, program, or actual projects prior to the decision to
move forward with the proposed action.
Decision Makers

● President Nixon signed NEPA into law on January 1, 1970. NEPA set forth a bold
new vision for America.NEPA established the Council on Environmental Quality
(CEQ) within the Executive Office of the President to ensure that Federal
agencies meet their obligations under NEPA. CEQ oversees NEPA
implementation, principally through issuing guidance and interpreting regulations
that implement NEPA's procedural requirements.

● EPA is an agency in the federal government that protects human health and the
environment by writing and enforcing regulations based on laws passed by congress.

Issues

● CEQ is involved in tackling a wide range of environmental issues and setting forth a number of
initiatives.

● It’s Not the best way to encourage productive harmony between man and environment.
Impact

● the law was established to foster and promote the general welfare, to create and maintain conditions
under which man and nature can exist in productive harmony, and fulfill the social, economic, and other
requirements of present and future generations of Americans. NEPA was the first major environmental law
in the United States and is often called the "Magna Carta" of Federal environmental laws.
