Lean manufacturing is a performance based process used in manufacturing organizations to


increase competitive advantage. The basic of lean manufacturing employ continuous improvement
processes to focus on the elimination of waste or non- value added steps within an organization. The
challenge to organizations utilities lean manufacturing is to create a culture that will create and sustain
long-term commitment from top management through the entire workforce.

Lean manufacturing, also called lean production, is a set and methodologies that aims for the
continuous elimination of all waste in the production processes. The main benefits of this are production
cost, increased output and shorter production lean times.

Many manufacturing industry foreign and local have been trying to adopt new business initiatives that
focuses on cost reduction by elimination non value added activities. These tools and techniques of lean
manufacturing have been widely used in the discrete industry starting with the original toyata
production system (TPS). Tools including just in time, cellular manufacturing total productive
maintenance, single minute exchange of dies, and production smoothing have been widely used in the
discrete part manufacturing sectors such as automotive, electronics and application manufacturing.

Sometimes co9mpanies cannot manage the competition and are forced to lower the charges and lose
profit. While doing this, they might also clients so sometimes the strategies applied only lean to disaster.
The most beneficial thing companies should do when they have problems is implementing lean
manufacturing.

The lean manufacturing strategy proved to be one of the greatest advantages when it comes to
changing company’s strategy. It is one of the most effective’s ways to decrease costs and increase profit
on long term. Its philosophy is called “elimination of seven wastes”.

What lean manufacturing wants to obtain is effectiveness. Although producing more is good,
lean manufacturing teaches us that producing exactly how much we need is better because producing
more means more effort wasted. So what people should obtain effectiveness inside and outside their
company.

But there were many people who just tried to use the tools in lean manufacturing without
understanding the meaning of them. They eventually failed. But there are number of places this system
is working well. The complete elimination waste is the target of the system. This concept is vitally
important today since today’s highly competitive world there is nothing we can waste. Even today this
system add to this chapter in the company years.
