Wat-er we Drinking

What Is Our Goal?
-Our goal is to clean water well and inexpensively

-To do this we created a filtration device using heat for a

biological filtration and particle/physical filtration

-We would plan to aid countries in need with an inexpensive

water filter protecting people from sickness
Types of Filtration

:
What Is Our Design?
-Our particle filter is a filtration device that uses layers of rock and one layer of
activated charcoal

-The layers of rock start as a larger gravel rock and decrease in size to smaller
sand grains

-The layers end with the activated charcoal amd a paper filter(coffee filter)

-After filtering through the layers of rock and charcoal the water is boiled to take
care of biological dangers/threats
Our Filter Designs
How does it work?
-physical/particle filtration: removes physical things in the water like dirt and other
particles you can see and don’t want in your water.

-Charcoal: removes toxins by attracting positively charged harmful molecules into

binding with negatively charged porous surface

-Heating: boiling is a biological and particle filtration that gets rid of bacteria and
some salts present in water
Results

Avg After 7.3 72 ppm

Filtration
How will it help?
-We would plan to aid countries in need
with this project

-It will clean people’s water to prevent

sickness and dehydration
What went wrong?
-During the boiling and condensation of the water we had multiple problems that
stopped us from getting all of the water from the Erlenmeyer's flask

-Our particle filter broke while filtering due to the paper filter not being able to
support the water, soaked sand, charcoal, and glass beads
How we could have made it better
-Could have used higher grade materials

-Could have used a better cooling system for the condensation tube of our project

-Could have used more efficient ways to capture our water.

-Could have increased speed of cleaning process
