Three-Gate CMOS RC Oscillator

The schematic of the oscillator is created using LTspiceIV. The values of the capacitor and
1
resistor were computed using the equation; 50𝑘𝐻𝑧 = 𝑅𝑠ℎ .
2.2( 2 )(𝐴𝑟𝑒𝑠)(𝐶𝐴)(𝐴𝑐𝑎𝑝)
𝑊

Rsh = 150 Ω/square (pdiff)

W = 2um

CA = 8.643E-4 m^2/Farad

𝑊2
As a result, 𝐴𝑐𝑎𝑝 = 𝑆𝑞𝑟𝑡 ( )= Ares = 1.675E-8m^2
50𝑘𝐻𝑧(2.2𝑅𝑠ℎ)(𝐶𝐴)

1 λ = 0.2um

The Resistor and Capacitor used in layout is somehow adjusted. For the resistor, 200 lines
connected (W=10λ; L=210 λ per line). New Ares = 200*10 λ*210 λ= 420 000 λ^2 = 1.68E-8m^2. Using the
same equation above, New Acap = 417 390.2126 λ^2 = 1.6696E-8m^2

Res = 630k Ω

Cap = 14.43PFarad
The Electric software is used to create the Layout for the CMOS RC Oscillator. No dummy resistor and
capacitors were created. There four capacitors with plates of the same component are shorted.
Below is the netlist used for the simulation of the circuit.

period=1.98328e-005 FROM 7.12481e-005 TO 9.1081e-005

Frequency = 50421.54kHz
