Modbus card

Provides a interface for the REGARD-system with

the Modbus Protocol.

Other systems with the Modbus Protocol, for example

Foxboro or PC´s runnig Software like FIX-Intellution,
can read gas level information and alarm status out of
REGARD system.

Connection to the Modbus card is via RS-232, RS-422

and RS-485.

Fourt character Led-Display to show the configuration

commands.

Six led´s to show A1, A2, A3/FAULT-STATUS (no

funktion), POWER ON- and INHIBIT-STATUS.

Control buttons: RESET,UP,DOWN,LEFT,RIGHT for

card-configuration.

REGARD Profibus-DP Gateway
PROFIBUS = PROcess FIeldBUS

The Regard PROFIBUS-DP Gateway is a additional Fieldbus Interface for our

modular REGARD Control system. It is NOT a replacement for the REGARD
Modbus card !!

Two versions in one device:

1. One-directional Gateway:
- current status of the alarms A1, A2, A3, Fault,
- calibration, inhibit signal and critical card faults,
- current gas concentration including extra informations
about the decimal places, plus/minus sign and over-
range of the gas concentration value.

2. Bi-directional Gateway
- All features of the one-directional Gateway and furthermore reset and inhibit
function of single channel cards or for the whole system.

The complete functionality of the gateway is linked to the Profibus-DP with 3

byte input data and 10 byte output data.

Why Profibus? (1)

Market information about PROFIBUS:

• Profibus is more than 10 years available in the market.

• PROFIBUS has grown from a small national user organisation into the
largest international fieldbus user organisation in the world with over 1000
company members in 23 regional country organisations. No other fieldbus
organisation can equal this.

Therefore PROFIBUS is one of the well known communication systems for

production- and process automation.

The Market share is approximate 50% in Europe and 20% world-wide. That
correspond to 3,000,000 installed PROFIBUS nodes with a market value of
approximate 3.5 billion US$.

Why Profibus? (2)

Technical features of PROFIBUS:

PROFIBUS is always a good choise if the customer wants to control a process

depending on the current gas concentration and/or the current status of alarms
by a PLC (example: ventilation control).

- The reason for this is, that most of big players in the PLC market,
like Siemens S7, supports PROFIBUS as an already integrated
standard fieldbus input on the PLC.

- PLC programmers are more familiar with an already integrated

fielbus standard as with other fieldbus systems.

- The settings are carried out with a software file with the device description
data (GSD = GeräteStammDatei).

- Using the Modbus instead of PROFIBUS will stress the customer

or our project with additional costs between € 1.500,- or € 2.500,- for
serial input modules and the Modbus protocol driver.

Implementations of Profibus

3 different types of PROFIBUS implementations available:

• PROFIBUS-FMS (FMS=Fieldbus Message Specification)

- Suitable for applications on sensor /actor level and for
data communication between intelligent and decentral
working control systems.

• PROFIBUS-DP (DP=Decentral Peripherie) = REGARD Profibus-DP Gateway!!

- Primary for applications where fast data communication
on sensor/actor level is required.

• PROFIBUS-PA (PA=Process Automation)

- For applications where explosion proofed equipment is
required. Offers intrinsic safety and remote power supply
through the buscable. Almost the same protocol as Profibus-DP.
