Based on the 1994 popular movie of the same name, Priscilla Queen of the
Desert follows the journey of two drag queens, Tick and Adam, and a transgender
woman, Bernadette, as they travel across Australia in their bus, named Priscilla.
3 male leads, plenty supporting characters, plus chorus. Features well-known pop songs
(e.g. I Will Survive, Go West, Boogie Wonderland). Would need a clever set for Priscilla!
Big Fish
The story shifts between two timelines. In the present-day real world, sixty-year-old
Edward Bloom faces his mortality while Will prepares to become a father himself. In the
storybook past, Edward ages from a teenager, encountering a Witch, a Giant, a Mermaid,
and the love of his life, Sandra. The stories meet as Will discovers the secret his father
never revealed.
2 Male 1 female lead, plenty good other parts with good ensemble. Some interesting
costumes required, and set would need to be creative.
Female and male leads, needs men! Ensemble. Can be staged very simply. Music – well it’s
Lloyd-Webber!
Bad Girls
Set in the fictional HMP Larkhall, it’s the story of new idealistic Wing Governor and her
battles with the entrenched old guard of Officer Jim Fenner and his sidekick. It also
follows the love story that develops between Helen and charismatic inmate Nikki Wade.
Decent size cast, mainly women. Contemporary music. Should be simple to stage.
Avenue Q
With the houselights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite
record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The
Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of
their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not so bright hostess,
two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone
Mixed cast, with many good featured roles for male/female and different ages + ensemble.
20’s musical style songs. Traditional settings. 20’s costuming
Copacabana
Splashy production numbers and to the slew of brand-new Barry Manilow songs. It’s the
story of the song. Traditional American musical theatre fare.
Large cast size. Male/Female lead – but with many great featured roles. Ensemble required.
Barry Manilow’s songs! Lots of feathers! Sets should be manageable – needs a good
amount of dancing.
Hairspray
It's 1962 in Baltimore, and the lovable plus-size teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire -- to
dance on the popular Corny Collins Show.
Good main roles for younger cast, plus others and decent size ensemble. Songs all sixties
style. Dancers required! Pretty flexible in terms of costume and set design.
Good male roles but some female too! Nudity…… Contemporary songs. Good lighting
required! Reasonably simple set requirements.
A hilarious musical whodunit loosely based on Charles Dickens’ famous unfinished novel.
Ending allows the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to the most unusual finale.
Large cast with plenty of featured roles. Music by Rupert Holmes (Pina Colada song!) is
quite catchy. Edwardian costumes. No complicated staging required.
9 to 5
Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the
sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss.
Decent size cast required, mostly female. Upbeat score by Dolly Parton. Costuming and
staging relatively simple.
Urinetown
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a
government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities,
regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of
humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a
revolution to lead them all to freedom!
Hilarious send-up of greed, love, revolution and musicals! Good roles for all ages
male/female and ensemble work. Should be simple to costume, flexible in staging terms.
Sister Act
Star vehicle for female plus lots of other female roles. Smaller character roles for men. Not
a big ensemble. Great familiar songs. Nun costumes required!
