Daedalus and Icarus, father and son, were both trapped in a tower, the tower being

trapped on an island. Once Daedalus and Icarus, escaped from their tower they now faced the

problem of leaving the island without getting caught. They eventually create wings to lift them

through the air and off the island, but if not careful the wings could completely fall apart and let

them fall to their death. Nature plays a big role in Icarus and Daedalus’ life. The role nature

plays in the passage “Icarus and Daedalus” and the poem “Icarus” is nature caused Icarus to

fall to his death and created an obstacle for Icarus and Daedalus to face to escape the island.

Nature caused Icarus to fall to his death because during flight to escape the island, the

sun began to melt the wax holding together the feathers of his wings, causing the feathers to fall

off and make him fall down and down to his death. According to the poem “Icarus” it says, “It

seemed such a strong solid type, but it melted away when things got hot”. Nature played a role

by melting away such a solid creation, even though Icarus believe the wings would for sure

hold.In the passage “Icarus and Daedalus” it says, “The heat of the sun had melted the wax

from his wings; the feathers were falling, one by one, like snowflakes; and there was none to

help. He fell like a leaf tossed down the wind, down, down…”. Nature played a role by creating

the sun and heat which caused the wax to melt and then the immediate downfall from there for

Icarus.
Nature created an obstacle for Icarus and Daedalus to face to escape the island

because the island is surrounded by water and the father and son cannot sail across the sea

without being caught. According to the passage, “Icarus and Daedalus” it says, “...it seemed

impossible to leave the island since every ship that came or went was well guarded by order of

the king”. Nature played a role in creating an island impossible for man to escape without the

assistance of something or someone, such as Daedalus and Icarus.

Nature played the role in the poem “Icarus” and the passage “Icarus and Daedalus” by

creating obstacles for Icarus and Daedalus to escape the island. Overall, the role nature plays is

causing Icarus to fall to his death and creating an obstacle for Icarus and Daedalus to face to

escape the island.
