ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

1. Who can apply?
We encourage young writers from around the world (like yourself) to help us write inspiring
stories, articles and own climate acts and to publish them in our magazine.
2. What do I have to write about?

We will have 7 ClimAct Themes, on which you will have to write one article on any one topic to
be eligible for our magazine:
✓ ClimAct Theme 1: Climate Change Vulnerability and Impacts on Divergent Ecosystems
We encourage you to: (1) describe the vulnerability and impacts of climate change on the area
of your own choice. For this topic, the area you select may be wide as a country or it may be
limited to a city, village or specific environmentally concern areas, e.g. forests, protected areas,
coastal and marine ecosystems, mountainous or riverine areas, etc. (2) explain how the climate
change is having negative impacts and variations in terms of climate variables on the site you
selected, and (3) call out for a higher ambition in executing the well-designed and best-suitable
plan to increase the resilience and combating the impacts of climate change .
✓ ClimAct Theme 2: Climate Change Finance
To ensure the wellbeing of future societies and to achieve the climate goals that have been set,
we have to invest in the future. It’s time to take up responsibility and make sure where our
climate money is going. You may write for the country or provincial level assessment which we
encourage you to analyse and identify the priority areas in which we have to invest to protect
our climate. For instance, you may pen your thoughts to move forward to invest for a sustainable
technology which can potentially be a clean mechanism for the society.
✓ ClimAct Theme 3: Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
Articles elaborating the innovative solutions to adapt and mitigate the impacts of climate change
will be selected. Therefore, you are recommended to go for presenting the solutions, rather than
go for describing the causes and impacts. Moreover, country-specific solutions will be highly
appreciated.
✓ ClimAct Theme 4: Climate Change and Health
Climate change is impacting each and every one of us on a very personal level that many of us
don't even realize, namely our health. With climate action, we have the chance to save millions
of lives. For this theme, the writers are advised to find out the diseases which emerged due to

the impacts of climate change and how they are deteriorating the quality of life among human,
animal and plants. For instance, vector-borne diseases are increased due to rise in temperature
since these vectors found the higher temperatures as their favorable ones. You can also go for
other newly emerging diseases and to find out their prevention, control and treatment against
climate change.
✓ ClimAct Theme 5: Climate Change and Biodiversity
In this domain, we would encourage the articles approaching the hidden linkages of climate
change impacts on flora and fauna. The issues should highlight the main factors including habitat
destruction, shift in growth pattern, breeding and reproduction, impacts on marine biodiversity
(e.g. coral reefs), early or late blooming of flowers, geographical shifts in species distribution and
migration.
✓ ClimAct Theme 6: Technical, Political and Social Response to Climate Change
For this theme We are looking for the article that calls out environment and climate change
policies at government level. You are supposed to write on international politics of climate
change which may provide help to the local government to implement technical control
measures, emission standards, sustainable strategies, climate ethics and precautionary principles
in light of capacity building of the community and society.
✓ ClimAct Theme 7: Climate Acts
In this category, you may write about your personal, organizational or team work experience
towards climate change. For this cause, we encourage you to share your Climate Acts with us
which have significantly contributed to bring change in the community or at mass level.
3. Am I eligible to apply?
Participants from all countries without any age limits are eligible for our opportunity.
4. In which language can I write my article?
You can write in English language only.
5. What toolkits should I use?
If you’re excited to start writing about climate change, but you’re not sure how? No worries,
we’re here to help you! We’ve created several Toolkits that will help you to find good sources,
structure your article, make jargon understandable, and reach out to editors. If you’re still stuck

6. What title should I give to my article?

Title of your article must reflect the content you write in the article. Try to keep the title as much
as brief, attractive, self-explanatory and consistent. Don’t select the article like a book chapter’s
heading. Your article should raise the questions in the minds of readers and editors so that they
could get the interest to know what you have written inside!
7. How will the articles be selected among multiple applicants?
The best articles will be chosen among the applicants by analyzing their outreach and writing
skills. Our rating system is based on:
✓ Style
▪ Structure
▪ Flow
▪ Language
✓ Engagement
▪ Media
▪ Action
✓ Content
▪ Relevance
▪ Research
✓ Originality
▪ Perspective
▪ Creativity
▪ Why me?
✓ Reach
▪ Audience
▪ Readership
8. How can I pitch my article?
✓ Give the editor a reason to run your piece. Look ahead to the way forward. What are the
innovative ideas you have proposed that you may be able to build a pitch around?
✓ Keep your pitch brief and to the point. You should be able to sum up the subject in a
sentence or two.
✓ Why you? If the editor has received a dozen articles on the same idea or issue, why should
they choose your article? Is there something you can bring to it that the other writers
won’t?

✓ “Title” and “Pitch” of the article;

more!
