proficiency and competency and a good command of English Language.


b) Andrea would be surprised that Natasha spoke Standard English as Natasha’s mom only
spoke Creole, and it was evident from the passage that she can’t speak Standard English.
Therefore, the language of her home/her native language is Creole.

language is Creole and to obtain fluency in Standard English they would need far
greater exposure which would lie beyond the current geographical location in order

“Andrea burst out laughing” is an example of Kinesics that appeal to the viewers’
aural imagery and would provide a better understanding of the tension between the two
characters (tutor and student) in terms of their discussion about future careers.

“Oh…unimpressed” is an example of Paralanguage as it shows a condescending tone


as Natasha thought her career was better.

“But Mrs. Jackson… insulted” is an example of Kinesics as her feelings of


embarrassment or insult would have been evident on her face. This is beneficial to the
