Question 01

How would you analyze Sir Syed Ahmed Khan’s enormous success

in the political arena of Sub-continent? Justify your answer with five

relevant points.

Ans: The great emancipator of the Indian Muslim Sir Syed Ahmed Khan was born at Delhi in
1871. In the political arena, Sir Syed craved numerous successes; he eradicated
misunderstandings between the Muslims and the British infused due to the passed particular
incidents. Awakening among the Muslims about the political ups and downs and co-
existence in the presence of other nations in India was contribution of Sir Syed.
Co-operation between the Muslims and the British he did the following things:

 He wrote the loyal Muhammadans of India to prove the Muslims were not
disloyal to British end to ask the British to their hostility and wrote tabyin-ul-
Kalam to point out similarities between Islam and Christianity. He wrote an
Asbab-i-Baghawat-i-Hind to clarify them.
 Sir Syed plays a vital role in educational uplift of the Muslims in India. He set
up a journal, Tahzib-ul-Akhlaq, founded scientific society in Ghazipore in
1863.Open schools in murdabad in 1859 and in ghazipore in 1864.
 Sir Syed used the word ‘nation’ for the Muslims. Sir Syed also increased the
political the awareness of Muslims in Sub-continent. At First he believed in
Hindu-Muslim unity but later resolved to the Two-nation theory.
 Urdu grew as common language of all the Indian regardless of origin or
religion but in 1867 the Benarsi Hindus started campaign to replace Urdu by
Hindi. Urdu had a special place in the Muslims hearts and Sir Syed opposed
this. This demand accepted by the British.
 Sir Syed set up the patriotic associations to meet the propaganda of the
Congress. Muslims and Hindus joined the Association. It advocated the
Muslims emotions. Its main purpose was to protect the political, religious and
social rights of Muslims.

Question 02

How did the Simon Commission divide the All India Muslim League
in two wings in 1927? Explain your answer with five relevant points.

Ans: The British Government sent a commission to seek the opinion of Indians on
the future shape of constitutional arrangements. It arrived in India in 1927 and it
published the report in 1930. Most political parties boycotted it. It presented its report
containing several constitutional proposals:
 Federal system of government with strong Centre.
 Two Houses.
 Abolition of Dyarchy system in provinces.
 More powers to provincial governments.
 Governor not to interfere in day to day affairs.
 Constitutional changes in NWFP.
