Winfield Scott was born was born on June 13 th in 1786, and he died on May 29th of

1866. During the War of 1812, Scott fought on the Niagara frontier. When he was there, the
British captured him but later returned him in1813. He fought in the battles of Chippewa, and
he was very successful in these fights. This allowed him to maintain the rank of major general
and become a hero by the end of the war.
He focused his time by studying military tactics. He was interested in maintaining a
disciplined U.S. army. In 1841, Scott became commanding general of the U.S. army. When the
Mexican War started in 1846, Scott invaded Mexico and captured Veracruz. He was also able to
win a series of battles during the war. Six months later, Scott ended the war in Mexico City. His
nickname was Old Fuss and Feathers because of his strict belief on military principles and
formalities.
In 1855, he became lieutenant general. He was the first person since Washington to be
put in that position. He was also commander in chief of the army during the Civil War.
Scott is on the wall of fame because of his remarkable work as leader in the wars and of
the army. He was a skillful and tactical general. He is also on this list because he came up with
the strategy that Lincoln eventually used to win the Civil War.
