Single-Parent HouseHolds & Incarceration not only impacts the parents, but also it can have an
negative or positive influence on the children within the home. Many HouseHolds where the
children has an parent incarcerated ( most likely the father) the children seems to go down a bad
path in their years leading up to their adult life .If Single Parent HouseHolds Are in relation to
the incarceration rate of minority males, then the increation rates of incarceration will contribute
to a direct increase of single parent households .

The Government & Our Judicial System takes fatherhood away from most minorities , which
contributes to the increase in single parent households . In The Articles it says “ Numbers Of
Incarceration Rapidly increased over teases due to the justice system although its the men
themselves that are getting themselves in trouble , and has no chance at new life , due to changes
in policies”(Travis,Western & Redburn) (Ed’s 2014).Throughout the article it gives the results
and correlation upon how the increase of incarceration in Men is related to the policy changed
but not deemed as a “rise in crime”. The Rise In crime becomes overlooked by the justice system
, leading those in charge to pay more attention to the policies that will “throw men behind bars ,
cause more restrictions , and astounding changes which are keeping men away from the chance
at fatherhood or new life . The Judicial system we know well that is here to serve us justice when
needed is fallen apart , and beginning to lost focus on the justice part of a situation or crime , and
are more focused in on , throwing our men , more specifically our minority African American
men behind bars .

Single Parent HouseHolds not only affect the parents in the home , but it also affects the children
living in the household. In One Article It states “in the household parents in the household
become exhausted when its just them alone , due to responsibilities of not only the children , but
of house needs , finances , and A stable Job to keep income “ With that meaning that this is now
considered an “One- Man/Woman” job that can put pressure on both the parent and children in
the household. The Single parent deems to struggle with the care of the child’s financial needs
for both one’s own needs and the household needs, Where as if there is a two parent household
can have this stability . The Article later states “ A single parent household has it where there are
unneeded problems that take place within the family and problems debating on the children and
the bonds between both parents and their children. Single parent households face many problems
within the family which affects everyone in the household and even the parent who is
incarcerated or not within the household.
The Correlation Of Both Single-Parent HouseHolds rates and Male Incarceration rates seem to
both increase based on one another . In one article it reads “This is stating that about 75,000 U.S
Residents are Males who are more likely a father , who are in jail”.The Article Also States How
“There has been a correlation between incarceration and single-parent households , stating that
there are many single parent households due to increased percentage of fathers incarcerated in
Illinois. The Article also states that “There are 2.7 million children with a parent in prison (
fathers) (Fatherhood,2016-2017). The Highest percentage of incarceration is either An male
incarcerated or a parent of one or more children at home. This Shows how a higher percentage of
fathers incarcerated correlates to the many fatherless homes in Illinois , which can correlate the
likely chance of the child being incarcerated in the future , and the stress put on the guardian who
is alone raising the child(ren).

Many skeptics began to argue that there are positive outcomes in having a single parent
household. They argue that there are strengths in both the children and adult because it can help
influence the children to become more self - dependent . In the article it states “Children In
single-parent families gain a special understanding of being an.
adult”(Singleparentadvocate2017) .Many argue That A Child That experiences being in a
singleparent household has the upper hand on children with both parents in the home , due to self
seeking & understanding which has a greater influence on the child towards early adult life .

In conclusion , if there are more single-parent households in correlation with increase in male
incarceration rates then if parents are continuously incarcerated , it will result in more
households becoming under the single- parent category . Results in outcomes of how the
Children will behave in the household with just one parent will vary due to the stress and
pressure on both the Children and parents within the households .
