SUBJECT: ACM WEAR LIMITS

STATUS : (Informatory or Mandatory)

EFFECTIVITY: Forthwith (or) from a certain date

This TIN provides the status of proposed revisions to the 737NG AMM regarding checks of the ACM
impeller blades.

During the replacement of the heat exchanger, it was observed that ACM impeller blades were found
bent or worn out. As no such wear limits had been found in AMM, the subject was referred to Boeing and
the Boeing response is reproduced below:-

Boeing will add checks in maintenance manual which can be accomplished without any disassembly of
parts. A measurement will be added to check the chord length (width) of the impeller blade tips. An
ACM replacement recommendation will be advised for those ACMs with impeller blade tips that measure
less than 0.38 inch (9.65 mm). In addition, the AMM will recommend ACM replacement if a visual
inspection of the impeller notes cracked or broken blades. The inspection steps will be added to AMM
Task 21-51-04-000-801-001 in the 15 Oct/2011 revision of the 737NG maintenance manual.

In the mean time, AMEs are advised to follow the above instructions while replacing the heat exchanger.
