REGIONS OF OUR COUNTRY

Look at the map of Argentina. Jujuy is in the


north. It has the shape of a boot. La Quiaca, in
Jujuy, is the place that is farthest north in our
country.
In this regions, there are high mountains of
different colours. Look at this mountain. It has
seven colours. It is called “the Hill of seven
colours”. There are deserts and deep valleys with
trees. It is very hot during the day and very cold
during the night. It is very dry and arid.
There are few plants. These plants have very small
leaves. There are a lot of cactuses. They have thick
stems to store water.
In Jujuy there are guacamayos, llamas, vicuñas,
goats and sheep. People make clothes with their
wool.
Festivals are very important for the people in the
north. A very important festival is the Carnival.
During this festival people dress in bright colours,
play traditional musical instruments and sing and
dance. There are beautiful fireworks.

1.- Read about the Mesopotamia:

Mesopotamia means in the middle


of rivers. In Argentina, it is the
region Between the Paraná and
Uruguay rivers, from the Iguazú
River to the River Plate. There are
three provinces in the
Mesopotamia: Misiones, Corrientes
and Entre Ríos. In the north, the
ground is red because it has a lot
of iron. The land is very ferlite
because it rain a lot.

There are thick forests with


guatambúes, laurels, cedars,
lapachos. The most important crop
is yerba mater. In the south the
land is lower and there are weeping
willows, poplars and fruit trees. In
this region you can find monkeys,
yaguaretés, ocelots, anteaters,

quails, toucans, ducks, flamingos,
herons, storks. In the rivers there
are surubíes, patíes dorados and
