Good Education for Better Prospects in Life

A good education brings about better prospects for life, it will equip a person with the
necessary skills, knowledge and character that one needs to be a functioning member of society.
But there are still who remain illiterate and according to the Annual Poverty Indicators Survey
(APIS) done by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on 2017 there are about nine percent of
the estimated 39.2 million Filipinos aged 6 to 24 years old were out of school children and youth
(OSCY). And sadly, enough about half of the OCSYs belong to families whose income fall at the
bottom 30 percent based on their per capita income. Their reason for not attending school were
mainly marriage or family matters (37.0 %), lack of personal interest (24.7 %0, and high cost of
education or financial concern (17.9 %) while only the remaining have either finished schooling
or has other reasons for being unable to attend school (20.4 %). This means that only few Filipinos
has finished their education and is unable to provide enough necessary income for them to sustain
their families and will most likely fail to provide them with a better environment fit for their
improvement and well-being giving rise to more impoverished Philippines. Another thing which
relates to education is the K to 12 program which will bring additional burden to the already
struggling families and to the schools whom will be tasked to cater to them. The Alliance of
Concerned Teachers (ACT) expressed concern that the opening of classes this SY 2019-2020 will
be bombarded with the “perennial” problems of the previous school openings. “The 2019 school
opening is most like-ly to be welcomed with shortages on the number of teachers, education
support personnel, instructional materials, and facilities,” ACT Secretary General Raymond
Basilio told the Manila Bulletin. Which despite having been said the DepEd and CHED is only
says flowery and reassuring words which may block our sight from the problems it may bring.
