The Two Step

The Two
Wulf looked into the camera bot that floated a meter away.
“Oh yeah, we got the pack moving in right now. This bug isn’t
gonna get past us this time.”
Back in the video ship, the production crew switched from
Wulf’s feed to those of the Pack, the other hunters in his crew.
While they were, of course, popular, none of them had the
adoration of the fan base like Wulf did. At six foot eight inches, he
was a hulk of a man, covered in light brown fur. He had himself
altered to look more hound-like at Colonial Clone Insurance,
adding to his animalistic aesthetic, as well as some heightened
senses to aid in hunting.
While the rest of the Pack wore typical body armor— all
branded with the Wulf the Bounty Hunter show logo— with head
gear and face masks, he walked into a fight with only a sleeveless
armored vest, unzipped to show off his cut physique; the only
head protection at all was a pair of darkened goggles. The
Insurance producers on the show were always in a tizzy about
this, but he and the network both knew that he was the brand, and
the ratings were more important than full safety methods. Not
since Big Russ had a bounty hunter show had as many viewers,
and that’s all that was important.
Each member of the Pack was followed
by a pair of hovering camera bots,
keeping track of all of their actions, and
the crew on in the video ship watched it
all, cutting between the feeds to make what
would be airing the live show in almost real
time.
The feed cut away from Bella, who
was shepherding the last of the humans
out of the area. Philip the Pup, one of
Wulf’s son and point man, held up the
bug finder in such a way that the
camera drones would be able to
see, a practiced showman. All
data, both tech and interviews,
said that the small hive would be in
the building at the end of the row.

6
“Looks like the door is reinforced, dad. Get out Ol’ Yeller.”
Wulf whistled, and from out of the shadows of the transport
ship came running a Best Friend Robot, it's vaguely dog shape
modified to be more aligned with Wulf’s altered form. It rushed
past Wulf, racing headlong towards the door. The two connected,
and the robot won, crashing through it and into the other door
beyond. The feed switched again, to Yeller’s eye view, black and
white with data from its various inputs overlaid onto the real
footage. The footage switched from black and white to a cool blue
with blobs of orange, red, and white: infrared heat vision.
Yeller quickly divined that all of the life forms on the first floor
were human, their heat signatures uniform across their bodies, but
found stranger readings in the basement, forms that were very
warm in one part of their body, but cool elsewhere, a telltale
marker of a bug.
“We’ve got ‘em!” Wulf cried, lifting his canine head to the sky
and howling his trademarked wolf call. The other pack members
struggled to stop themselves from rolling their eyes where the
camera drones could see. “Pack, move out. I need this first floor
cleared of civilians, then I’ll go down.”
Everyone knew that this was against standard hunter practice.
No one goes down into a bug hole without backup, but Wulf, as
per usual, got to flaunt the rule in favor of increased ratings. No
one bothered to make a fuss with him while the drones were
rolling, and as a reality network show, they were almost always
rolling.
Wulf brought his H&P Series 9 minigun to bear, thumbing the
custom controls to start the barrels spinning without firing, more
things the network paid for that weren’t exactly needed. He pulled
up the current feed in the Heads Up Display in his goggles,
watching what the viewers at home were watching. They shouted,
swearing at the normal folk who were equal parts resentful that
they had to move and in awe that Wulf and the Pack were there.
“Clear!” Pup’s voice rang clear, and Wulf switched back to his
normal vision, stomping forward with a practiced stride. Wulf was
inevitable; never in the three years of his show had a bug escaped
his hunt, and as his show was live, unlike others, fans knew
there’s no ignoring escapes here. What the fans didn’t know was
that he definitely practices that walk in the rare unrecorded
moments of the day.

7
“Come out, come out, wherever you are,” he drawled, kicking
open the door to the staircase. It swung hard against the wall
behind it, clanging into the darkness. “You can’t hide for long, oh
yeah.” He drew out the yeah, flicking on the two lights on his
minigun.
In the basement, bare concrete walls met a hard packed dirt
floor. His heavy magnetized boots crunched on hard pellets, bug
excrement. He swore, sweeping the light over the room. The floor
was covered in it. Having no where he could step that wouldn’t
crunch, Wulf considered giving up on stealth all together, but the
bugs had to be close if there were this many. He started toward
one direction, dimming his lights. The camera drones behind him
softly clicked, switching from color to night vision.
He moved into the next room and found a target, seven feet
tall and half as wide, the large beetle-like alien’s iridescent
carapace reflecting the light of the gun. It turned swiftly, and
looked at him with fairly red compound eyes. It rattled its pincers
and started to lift its shell to release its wings, but Wulf didn’t let it
go any further. He pulled back the trigger on the minigun and put
five hundred bullets into its carapace within a second– less than
the standard, not-modified-for-the-camera minigun could output,
but more than enough kill a bug.
Wulf turned as more chittering filtered over the sound of the
minigun, firing as another beetle-like bug crawled on the ceiling
towards him. Howling his trademark howl, knowing that the sub-
dermal microphones that were tied to the camera drones would
pick up the sound and block out the gun rapports, Wulf relished in
the violence.
“There’s a paid subscriber shout out for this kill, a Jordan
Tam,” said a producer from the video ship.
Every so often, a subscriber to the show can pay a large about
of Seed to get their names or some other special message
mentioned on the air. Most of these happen in the moments
between combat, for obvious reasons.
“This kill goes out to my man Jordan Tam, oh yeah. We do this
for cool dogs like you, Jordan.” Wulf swept the rest of the room,
finding nothing, and decided to riff. “Yeah, we do this for all you
fans out there in the system. The Pack is anyone out there who
believes in the Wulf, supports us, and keep good thoughts out for
us, yeah. We keep the system safe from these damn bugs out for
you, yeah!”

8
He quieted, hearing chittering in the next room. He looked into the
camera drone that was always facing him, smirking. He nodded,
the turned the corner, already firing.
The bullets bounced off the metal of a ship, ricocheting
everywhere. Wulf was barely able to roll back into the room
behind him to avoid hurting himself. He had never seen a bug ship
underground before, and definitely not one that could withstand
minigun fire. Most were speedsters, all stealth and speed, but
almost no armor. That was not what was in the other room.
A hiss, and then metal against metal as the entryway opened.
Cacophonous buzzing filled the air as untold numbers of one
meter long locust-like bugs flew into the room Wulf was in. He let
loose with the minigun, but they were more agile than he was able
to spray, and soon he was out of ammo.
Throwing the gun at the swarm, Wulf called out, “I need
back up! Get down here!” Two of the bugs went after one of the
camera drones, and their attack sent it careening into the wall.
Wulf pulled out two collapsable batons, swinging wildly as the last
camera drone re-tasked itself to keep itself trained on him.
Thousands of fans watched live, and later, millions on re-
watch when the episode went viral, as Wulf the Bounty Hunter
fought off two dozen of the small bugs. But it was too much,
enough of them piercing his bare skin with stingers, pumping him
full of venom. In a moment, he was unconscious.
Philip got there first, his flamer out and filling the air with
white hot flame. This charred the smaller winged bugs, along with
the camera drone dutifully recording Wulf’s fallen body, but the
larger beetle was already dragging him to the ship, and he
wouldn’t risk hurting his dad with the flamer. Dropping it the
ground, he pulled his H&P Defender, firing three shots from the
handgun in quick session. The bullets punctured the beetle’s shell,
but it nevertheless continued to drag Wulf towards the ship.
With one swift motion, the bug roughly threw Wulf’s body
into the belly of the ship and turned to face Philip, who continued
firing until his magazine was empty. The back shell of the beetle
opened, and it surged forward on powerful wings, knocking Philip
to the ground. The other members of the Pack entered the room,
opening fire on the bug on top of him.
“No, forget me! Get dad, the ship!”

9
It took a moment too long for the words to register, during which
the door to the ship closed and sealed. None of the Pack had
weapons with power enough to pierce the hull of a space-rated
ship, though that didn’t stop them from firing upon it as it roared to
life and begun to burrow back into the earth from whence it came.
Running through the building to follow, the Pack, along with the
camera drones following them, watched as it burst forth from the
ground, flying upwards and clearing the atmosphere.
As they had gotten to the site in a simple transport ship not rated
for space, they couldn’t follow and were stunned at what had
happened. Inside the video ship, the
communication lines were flooded, subscribers
wanting to pay to have the Pack follow the ship,
fans saying they love this new plot line, or that
they hate that the show is doing something so
blatantly fake and scripted. It took them several
minutes to get a channel from the network
itself, asking what the hell happened, and if it
was indeed a ploy. Only after the producers were
convinced that this wasn’t a storyline, that it was
real, did they allow the Pack to call in the police.
By the time they did, there was no trace of the ship leaving
orbit of the planet, and Wulf the Bounty Hunter, who real
name was Dominic Carter, was declared missing. Colonial
Clone Insurance put out a $5k bounty for anyone who could
find The Wulf, half that if they only had information that lead to the
company finding him.
In the fan community, a deep schism formed, one half of the group
still thinking that the abduction of Wulf was a ploy for ratings, or to
end the show with a bang. The other believed it was real, but
among them, half wanted to form search parties of their own to go
save their beloved star, despite generally have no hunting skills of
their own. In the intervening days after the event, sales of amateur
bounty hunting gear skyrocketed. If the Wulf was missing, it
looked like there were hundreds of people who were willing to put
life and limb in danger to join the extended Wulf Pack family and
go find him.

To Hunting Team

You are to meet at Hunting conference room B at 0430 hours to

receive a new contract. Bring all necessary equipment and
weapons. Failure to arrive on time will cause your contract status
to be moved to the bottom of the list.

Bill from The Company

If the players decide to arrive on time and with Proper

equipment they will be met at the door by Bill. Bill a spark plug
shaped man with a bald head and dressed per The company
standard in a bland black suit with black sunglasses.

Bill will open the door with out word and enter the conference
room with out a word leaving the door open for the team. Inside
the team finds the normal conference table and unconformable
chairs. The dull gray walls with chipped paint with an ancient hollo
projector system. However this room is different than normal
because it holds a person most of the group will instantly recognize
as Phillip the Pup from the Wulf Pack hunter team with the hit
network show.

Bill turns on the hollo projector with any preamble. (A Large man/
dog hybrid carrying a large Mini gun appears in the air) “This is
The Wulf, leader of the Wulf Pack. They were retrieving a bounty
when a beetle cleaned the place out. It is believed that Mr. Wulf
was taken alive and may still be on ship somewhere. You are
tasked with returning him.” Bill starts walking toward the
door.“your team will receive a $5000 retrieval bonus and any bug
bounty. “ an airlock is beeping near the end of the hallway. “This is
your shuttle it leaves in 90 seconds” Bill walks toward the exit
without any further word and leaves the area.

Two step
Inter stellar entertainment (ISE) corporations ship Two Step is an
ageing Tims light engineering Mk 44. The ship was purchased by
ISE to use on the production of “Wulf Pack”. The ship as meant to
be used as a prop and it was believed that the FTL drive was
inoperative. The ISE had seeded the ship with bugs and believed it
to be safe for Wulf to film on.

Wulf being kidnapped by bugs is not part of the production plan.

ISE has clones available Of Wulf and would be more than happy
if he didn’t come back from the Two Step.

The Two step is laid out like a standard MK44. It is only modified
with cameras and microphones to assist in the filming of the show.

Many bugs were set loose in the Two Step but only a few were set
up for specific encounters.

Bridge: when hunters enter this room they will find 3 gremlins and
an unconscious Wulf. The gremlins have badly damaged the ships
controls and an engineering -5 check will need to be made to fix
them.

Main airlock: in this room 3 slugs await any hunters that enter

Crew quarters: in the crew quarters the hunters will find the
remains of 2 men in torn up armor. The logo of ISE can be seen
on what's left of the armor. The hunters can salvage a Salvage
Borno and Zenon Spike (with 2 loaded magazines) and three
Borno and Zenon chain shuriken.

12
Any time a hunter first enters a room roll on the random bug
chart. This number is just a base subtract or add bugs as you find
necessary to challenge the hunters.

Any bug will attack a hunter on sight. They will also pursue a
fleeing hunter. Some bugs are craftier than others so don't have
them all just run in to be gunned down just have them start
hunting the players.

If the players are breezing through the adventure add in a hand

full of assassins from ISE trying to kill Wulf.

Genetic Alteration
During the cloning process some people have chosen to augment
their genetic code. Some have it done to look more interesting.
Others do it to give themselves an advantage . Why ever they wish
to do it the fine folks at colonial clone insurance are happy to take
care of the wishes of paying clients.

Below are some of the more common genetic alterations done to a

clone. They are not the only ones done and anything a player or
GM can dream up can be done (at a cost). The stranger or more
extreme the change, the more expensive the alteration becomes.

Senses
Heightened sense: Sight, touch, smell, and hearing can be
heightened in this manor. Any time a test involves the heightened
sense add one die to the set.

New sense: A handful of extra sense can be added to the human

body. The processing centers of the human brain can only accept
two of the new scenes at this time. Cost $300

Motion sensor: Enhanced skin and hair cells make it possible to

detect even unseen motion. The user can detect even small motion
up to 100 feet away. Cost $450

Exact navigation: A magnetic sense in the brain allows this user to

find their way back to anyplace they have been flawlessly. $350

Barometer: Specialized receptor in the skin, allows the user to

notice any change in pressure around them. $400

Echolocation: Specialized processing in the brain ,allows the user

to use ambient noise to (see). They can use it to find things or
navigate around. $500

19
Abilities: Base ability (physical, mental, social) can be augmented
making a person stronger, smarter, or more likeable. A ability can
only be raised by 1 in this method. Cost 1000

Addition: This is a group of

augmentations that a human
dose not normally possess.
They are often used to obtain
a certain “look” that the client
is looking for.

Camouflage: An augmentation
that allows the client to
control chromatophores under
the new skin to change their
color or pattern. Cost $375

Fur: A thick layer of fur now

grown on the persons skin.
The pattern or type of fur is
chosen by the client. The fur
protects against the cold. Cost
$200

the spinal column it is usually
combined with fur to make the
appearance of the person
animalistic. Cost $75

Claws: A set of claws attached to the hands or feet in-place of

finger/toenails. These can be used as weapons or ornamental. Cost
$100 damage 1/1 range 0

A Bounty Hunter specifically refers to a Bug hunter that

works on a vid show. The Bounty Hunter is more interested
in making a kill look good than in getting the
job done. They are useful, however, do to

Mk 44 deck one
Main airlock and storage: This deck contains a large storage
locker and the main airlock. The cargo locker is usually kept
empty so any cargo that needs to be removed from a damaged ship
can be stored here until the ship can be repaired or the cargo
retrieved by another ship.

The Mk 44 main airlock is larger than normal to accommodate

attaching to any ship and the movement of work crews from one
ship to another easily.
1: Main cargo hold.:This large room can accommodate large
amounts of cargo and is equipped with a cargo elevator to
move cargo and equipment back and forth between the
cargo deck and engineering deck. A large door connects the
area to the air lock lobby.
2: Main Air lock lobby: This area, which houses the main
airlock, is loaded with tool and vac suit lockers. A small
armory is also located in this area.
3: Machine shop: the Mk 44 has an extensive
machine/fabrication shop. Most any part needed to keep a
ship space worthy can be fixed or fabricated in this area. A
large door connects this area to the engineering shop.
4: Engineering shop: This shop is where systems are repaired.
Large benches and tool lockers dominate this area.

31
5: Engineers quarters: The chief engineer of the ship’s living
quarters and office. These are Spartan with a small desk space
and sleeping areas. The biggest luxury on the Mk 44 is that the 3
officers have private heads.
6: First officer quarters: The First officer of the ship’s living
quarters and office. These are Spartan with a small desk space
and sleeping areas. The biggest luxury on the Mk 44 is that the 3
officers have private heads.
7: Officers lobby: This is a sitting space for the officers to eat
and lounge in off duty. An entertainment suite and sitting areas
are provided.
8: Captain quarters: The Captain of the ship’s living quarters
and office. These are larger and better equipped than the other
officers quarters with full entertainment suite and a small armory.
Like the other private quarters they have a private work space and
head.
9: Common room/Galley: This large area is the kitchen and
sitting room for the crew. An entertainment center and tables for
the crew to eat/work at fill the area.
10: Crew bunks: This room houses the crew of the ship with 6
bunk beds (12 bed) and wall lockers the cramped area is where
the work crew sleeps.
11: Common wash room: This is the bathroom for the crew
with stall showers and bathroom facilities. The area is very small
for the 12 crew members.

32
12: Bridge: The ships navigation and sensors are controlled
from this room . The large space has stations for the 3 officers.
13: Emergency gang way: This corridor, just aft of the bridge,
is seldom used and is only in place for access to the emergency air
lock and non vacuum access to the ships drives.
14: Emergency airlock/ interior dive access: This area houses
the ships second airlock and engineering access to the main
propulsion and Alcubierre drive. The drive access is in the aft most
area of the bay and the small airlock access is on the top most
bulkhead.

GPS courier

The GPS Courier MK 2 is an older ship but still

seen in many outward sectors. Cheap and easy to oper-

The ship can carry up to 6 pre packed cargo containers
and has a small cargo section for sensitive cargo and
small packages.

With its large crew cabins and recreational areas

passengers often move around the outward sectors in
MK 2's as well.
