Unwanted chemicals can be formed in certain foods during processing as a result
of reactions between compounds that are natural components of the food. Bisphenol A and Furan are chemicals that are formed and found in canned goods. Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical agent used in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastic products. Furan is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity from studies in experimental animals. The researchers interviewed nutritionists from Northern Mindanao Medical Center and a chemist to provide answers to the research questions regarding these chemicals. It was found out that the effects of excessive amounts of Bisphenol A found in canned goods to human health are infertility, cardiovascular diseases, abnormalities in metabolism, and interruption of the development of the central nervous system. while the effects of excessive amount of furan found in canned goods to human health are cancer, and liver damage. Furan may be a carcinogen since it has been shown to cause cancer and may damage the liver and kidneys. These chemicals form in foods through the production process such as heating that may trigger chemical reactions and the packaging, the food components can react with some packaging materials. It is recommended that people should start being conscious and cautious about the things that they eat, and start eating healthy foods rather than relying on instant foods like canned goods.
